De Beers Group of Companies has an opportunity for an IBA community member to join the Maintenance Department as a full-time Apprentice at Gahcho Kué Mine, Northwest Territories. Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, the successful candidate will gain on-the-job experience and training in the inspection, repair, and service of mechanical equipment until such time as they become a certified Millwright Journeyperson. The successful candidate will be committed to safe work practices and strive for zero harm to people, property, and the environment.
Responsibilities

  • Conduct planned maintenance; troubleshoot equipment deficiencies; provide timely quality equipment repair;
  • Provide feedback to supervisors on planned maintenance to ensure repairs are completed according to schedule;
  • Demonstrate a commitment to De Beers Canada safety, health and environmental programs and comply with all security policies, and;
  • Report any issues that may harm people, property or the environment.
The rotation is 14 days in /14 days out. Referral Referral incentive applicable: This opportunity is open to a paid referral incentive according to the Employee Referral Policy (HRM.AD.21.00). Referral incentives are applicable to De Beers Group internal employees only.

Qualifications
  • Completion of the Trades Entrance Exam or completion of high school courses in math, science and English with acceptable grades to demonstrate the academic skills required to be a successful Millwright Apprentice (transcripts will be required);
  • Be an IBA member of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation (YKDFN), or Lutsel K’e Dene First Nation (LKDFN), or Tlicho Government, or Deninu K’ue First Nation (DKFN), or North Slave Métis Alliance (NSMA), or the Northwest Territory Metis Nation (NWTMN). Non-IBA residents of the Northwest Territories may be considered if the position cannot be filled by an IBA member;
  • Ability to work well as part of a team in a fast paced, cross cultural, environment; and
  • Proven commitment to Safety, Health and Environmental standards.
