Wood has immediate openings in our growing team as an industrial projects, Mechanical Engineer for our Process & Energy office in Grande Prairie, Alberta. This thriving northern community is the hub for northern Alberta and British Columbia, stretching all the way into the Northwest Territories. With Forestry, Oil & Gas and Agriculture, the 'Peace' region also provides diverse challenges across a variety of industries and projects.

Reporting to the Manager of Operations, this position is located in our Grande Prairie office. Our office primarily delivers small-cap and mid-cap maintenance or retrofit projects to the Peace regions industrial customers. This role has overall responsibility for the successful execution and delivery of these projects. Key Responsibilities

  • Leading work groups or project teams with limited supervision
  • Focus on meeting client objectives
  • Leading the engineering effort and team for the layout, design, specification and evaluation of mechanical equipment for industrial plants and related infrastructure
  • Preparing sizing calculations for pumps, gravity flow systems and other industrial equipment
  • Preparing project documents and reviewing those prepared by others for scope, presentation and technical accuracy
  • Effectively execute projects in study phases and project execution, as well as supporting projects in construction
  • Demonstrating effective organizational skills and handling multiple tasks independently, and as part of a team
  • Adequate management of project budget, schedule and quality, and effective implementation of change management procedures
  • Establishing good working relationships and communication with project management, area leads, department managers, clients and other team members to coordinate and ensure the compatibility of design
  • Supervising and mentoring junior staff, including assigning work and evaluating technical competence
Skills / Qualifications
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree from a recognized university with P. Eng. Status in Alberta; or eligibility for registration
  • Relevant site maintenance or operations experience is considered
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high volume and deadline-driven environment
  • Experience with mechanical calculation software and tools are considered an asset
  • 10 plus years of experience in a heavy industrial projects such as pulp and paper, seed oils, water/wastewater, or oil & gas, including at least three years of increasing responsibility as an engineer
  • Excellent English oral, written and presentation skills for communication with internal team, stakeholders and clients
  • Good planning, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel to field locations as required and maintain Class 5 driver license in a good standing
  • Pulp and Paper would be a definite asset
The successful candidate shall have experience and posses the physical ability to work out of the office on heavy industrial sites independently and safely.
