Summary
The Industrial Engineer plays a key role in designing, optimizing, and enhancing operational processes across multiple sites, with a strong focus on sorting and loading efficiency. This position requires a hands-on approach and close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful implementation of automation strategies and operational improvements. The role also contributes to the development of operating standards and provides strategic input on procurement and automation initiatives, driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Design & OptimizeDevelop and optimize physical operational flows and automation strategies across multiple sites to improve sorting and loading efficiency.
Collaborate with facility and operations teams through all phases--justification, design, implementation, testing, and go-live--of new, expanded, and relocated stations.
Standards Development & Data-Driven InsightsPlay a key role in establishing and refining operating standards for core activities, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Enhance manual sorting processes for small and non-conveyable parcels by improving ergonomics, material handling equipment, and health & safety protocols.
Analyze throughput, operational costs, and quality metrics to define sorting thresholds based on volume, building specifications, and parcel mix.
Strategic Input & Field EngagementSupport operations and procurement teams in analyzing, justifying, and selecting material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks, conveyors).
Collaborate with automation providers and industry partners to identify innovative solutions that meet short-, medium-, and long-term operational needs.
Provide input during RFI, RFP, and RFQ processes related to automation and material handling equipment.
Regularly visit delivery stations and sortation hubs to gain a deep understanding of operations and secure stakeholder buy-in on key initiatives.
Act as a consultant to operations management teams, providing expertise and strategic guidance.
QualificationsBachelor's degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; a graduate degree in engineering, project management, or operations management is an asset.
1-5 years of experience in operational excellence, engineering, or performance improvement roles.
Experience in an automated warehouse or HUB environment is an asset.
Proficient in AutoCAD; experience with simulation software is a plus.
Advanced Excel skills, with a strong attention to detail and data-driven mindset.
Demonstrated ability to hold stakeholders accountable and drive results.
Job RequirementsBilingual in French and English is preferred to ensure effective communication with diverse teams.
