Job Description

OverviewThis position is located in Yellowknife, NT.The Electrician participates as a member of the Generation Work Unit and performs Journeyperson level work in the installation, repair and maintenance of various pieces of electrical generation and control equipment. This includes electrical maintenance of hydro and diesel power plants, along with auxiliary equipment such as electric motors, transformers, relays and other Northwest Territories Power Corporation (NTPC) electrical systems. All work shall be carried out and properly documented in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code and NTPC policies and standards.Responsibilities

• Calibrates all engine mounted alarm, indication and shutdown devices, as well as cleaning and checking all wiring and relays in engine control cabinets.
• Upgrades electrical drawings, maintains accurate records of work performed and provides written reports as required.
• Assists with scheduled overhauls of diesel electric generation sets, includes but is not limited to cleaning and testing of windings, exciter diode bridges, replacement of bearings and checking and torquing of wire and cable connections.
• Maintains and repairs auxiliary generator equipment and devices, includes but is not limited to, calibration of automatic and manual voltage regulators, generator protection devices, metering and cleaning and checking all wiring and terminations in generator control cubicles.
• Performs maintenance and repairs to high and low voltage switchgear and breakers. This includes, but is not limited to, cleaning breaker circuits and motor control centres, cleaning and calibration of high voltage breakers, torquing bussbar bolts and checking wiring and terminations.
• Performs maintenance and repairs to Corporation buildings (heating, air conditioning, fire alarms, lighting, etc.). You may be required to install circuitry in buildings or pieces of equipment which may require the use of teck cable or conduit.
• Removes, installs, calibrates and tests electrically operated devices on all plant systems.
• Other tasks as outlined in the job description.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, with an Industrial Journeyperson-level Electrician certification required, preferably with an interprovincial red seal, or equivalent journeyperson certification acceptable by the Corporation.
• Minimum of three (3) years\' journeyperson Electrician experience in a related work environment such as utility, hydro, or industrial/mining maintenance.
• Experience working with and troubleshooting synchronous generators, maintaining switchgear, etc.
• Ability to read and work off blueprints, as well as interpret drawings, diagrams, and specifications of a variety of types of electrical equipment, including manufacturer\'s manuals and parts books.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both in written and verbal form, as well as work with minimal supervision.
• Must have a NWT Class 5 driver\xe2\x80\x99s licence (or equivalent).
• Must undergo a successful criminal background check.

Salary for this position ranges from $45.15/hr. - $54.86/hr. plus a location allowance of approximately $4,642 per year.
