Our Buildings Architectural team in GTHA and Waterloo, Ontario is seeking a Principal Architect with strong business development, project and team management skills, to lead and grow the Industrial architectural team, including top-line strategy and performance, design and project delivery excellence, business planning, market position, and innovation strategies. Our GTHA and Waterloo architectural team is a key contributor to our diverse industrial portfolio at Stantec. This position reports to the BC Operations Leader (BCOL) for the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and will collaborate with the broader principal-led leadership team. We are looking for someone to lead, manage, inspire, engage and grow a culturally strong and high performing industrial business in Waterloo.
Your Opportunity
Our GTHA /Waterloo/North American industrial clients come from manufacturing, food & beverage, warehousing / distribution / logistics, transit, municipal, power & energy, science & technology and national defense sectors.
Some of our industrial project types include new construction and renovation of:
Vehicle maintenance facilities for light rail, heavy rail, bus, fleet, mining, other transit facilities etc.
Warehouses, distribution centres, fulfillment centres and parcel sortation facilities
Component manufacturing and assembly facilities
Manufacturing facilities for light and heavy industry
Food processing facilities
Energy transmission stations and supporting buildings
Aircraft hangars
Staff support facilities for the above facility types
Other light industrial facility projects
Your Key Responsibilities
Supervise, grow, and develop the architectural team in Ontario.
Inspire, motivate, and hold the team accountable for the delivery of innovative design solutions, helping lead the continued development of our architectural expertise and methodologies.
Regularly seek continuing education opportunities to increase knowledge base for the team.
Keep project team well informed of changes and updates.
Effectively communicate relevant project information with Project Managers, Team Leads, and Office Leadership.
Actively contribute to win strategies and successful project execution through being hands-on in key pursuits, client management and project management.
Drive growth of the Ontario architectural team through leading business development activities, key pursuits, and sales strategy.
Engage with our other Principal leaders within the North American practice, to expand our reach and client base using strong marketing, business development, sales account management plans.
Increase visibility of Stantec, to enhance our reputation and drive revenue, by sharing our knowledge and innovation story at key client engagements.
Partner with other teams across the company to drive industrial collaboration and growth initiatives across geographies and business lines.
Lead the annual marketing and business development (M&BD) plan for the Waterloo architectural team.
Provide architectural design leadership at all stages of the design, with specific expertise in industrial buildings.
Leads the project delivery and QAQC process, discipline excellence, technical expertise, document quality and best practices in the execution of work.
Support Stantec policies on safety, quality control, and overall project delivery.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Demonstrated ability grow and lead multi-disciplined teams, with minimal supervision.
Capability in design, technical and construction detailing.
Strong understanding of zoning bylaws, Ontario Building Code and National Building Code with respect to industrial buildings.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Ability to cross collaborate with various Industrial studios in Stantec offices in North America and abroad.
Experience in, and comfort with, leading all aspects of the project development cycle from briefing and preparing fee proposals to substantial performance.
Proven business development record and ability to help position for future industrial projects/clients.
Ability to work in our Waterloo office on a regular basis and visit our Markham or downtown Toronto offices and as required.
Education and Experience
Degree in Architecture. Registered Architect and OAA registration preferred.
Prefer 15 years of experience in designing industrial buildings.
Project management and design management experience.
Experience in leading teams and projects in a multi-discipline BIM environment.
