Job Description

Nenan Dane zaa Deh Zona Family Services Society (Nenan) is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual to join our team as a Indigenous Youth Service Worker!

This position is responsible for supporting Indigenous children & youth ages 0-19 who may be at risk. This role involves building trusting relationships, addressing immediate needs, and connecting youth with resources and services that promote wellness and healing outcomes. This position will lead with trauma informed approaches, support in implementing Cultural Connections Plans, and provide opportunities for life skills development that will guide Indigenous Children and Youth towards a path of resilience and well-being.

Education and Experience

:

Social Service Worker Diploma, Indigenous Human Services Diploma, Social Work Diploma and/or equivalent combination of training, education and experience 1-2 years of related experience with providing mental health/outreach services to children and youth in MCFD care Experience working with Indigenous communities and/or non-profit organizations

Required:



Certified in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and/or Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) required A valid BC class 5 driver's license and acceptable drivers abstract required A clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, with results acceptable to childcare regulations required First Aid with CPR Level B required (or willing to obtain) Naloxone training required (or willing to obtain)

Role and Responsibilities:



Engage community members and promote Indigenous Child and Youth Mental Health Services Provide life skills and youth support through individual and group work in the areas of parenting, stress management, problem solving, conflict resolution, effective communication, and social skills enhancement Assist the Clinician in carrying out treatment plans by monitoring any health concerns identified during sessions Empower youth by fostering a sense of agency and resilience Connect youth with appropriate resources and services, including other mental health support, housing assistance, education, cultural programs & more Collaborates with the Cultural Connections Coordinator to enhance cultural relevance in service provision Supports the ongoing development and implementation of Cultural Connections Plans for youth in the care of Ministry of Child and Family Development (MCFD) Build trusting relationships with youth through culturally sensitive and trauma-informed approaches Participates in supervision with the ICYMH Clinical Manager to go over case load and files Maintains client records and administrative records/stats in compliance with Nenans standard of case file management Assist Indigenous families to navigate the existing health and social service network of care Participates in opportunities for cultural activities, practices, and/or events through connections to Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community members and/or Indigenous organizations Supports the implementation of programs and services that provide Indigenous children and youth, including those who are in, or at risk of being in, the care of MCFD with opportunities for connection and development in areas such as life skills, education, culture and community Supports the Cultural Connections Coordinator in facilitating cultural programs for children-in-care, their caregivers, relevant family and community members Actively supports youth with Integrating, Identifying & Building Healthy Relationships by identifying Family connections, Community connections, participating in cultural activities, building care giver relationship, and other supporting with other identified relationships Supporting Permanency Planning with youth in care to strengthen healthy individuals for independence while maintaining their identity and connection to their community Facilitating one-on-one support sessions with youth in care Must maintain and complete monthly progress reports Must maintain a high level of confidentiality on all matters relating to the affairs of Nenan Dane zaa Deh Zona Family Services Society Must be comfortable with implementing harm reduction practices Must engage in regular professional development and stay up to date on ethical practices Performs all other roles and responsibilities in accordance with Nenan policies, standards, and procedures, and as directed by the ICYMH Clinical Manager

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



Awareness of the diverse cultures, histories and traditions of Treaty 8 First Nations, Indigenous and Metis peoples of northeastern BC and the impacts of colonization and generational trauma affecting Indigenous families and communities Must be able to perform Risk Management and Harm Reduction supports Excellent interpersonal skills, including active listening and conflict management Ability to participate in collaborative decision-making and cultivating a positive team environment Awareness of the dynamics of active and ongoing addiction, abuse, family violence, neglect, grief, mental health, healing and recovery as well as the value of harm reduction practices Knowledge and consistent implementation of ethics and boundaries Demonstrated skills in report writing and documentation Engage community members and promote Indigenous Child and Youth Mental Health Services

Location:

Position is based in Fort St John but company-paid travel within the northeastern BC region is required.

Hours:

35 hours per week. Monday to Friday, 8:30-4:30. Evening and weekend work as required.

Compensation:

$50,000 to $60,000 based on experience and qualifications. Paid training and professional development opportunities. Comprehensive benefits package with optional company matched RRSP plan after successful completion of three-month probation.
