The School




The role is within our School of Applied Sciences and Technology. The departments within the School are located on our Grande Prairie campus and our Fairview campus. The School offers a variety of programming in Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Sciences, and Animal Health Technology. Through this programming, we offer a variety of certificates, diplomas, university transfer courses, as well as a degree in computing science.


The Role




This position offers a chance to work with small university-level classes (maximum class size is 40) and introduce students to the ideas and approaches of Indigenous Studies. The successful candidate will teach a range of Indigenous Studies courses both to students pursuing the field in greater depth and in support of Indigenization of other programs.


The courses offered in Fall 2025 are


NT1100 - Land-Based Learning NT2030 - Indigenous Ways of Knowing NT2300 - Introduction to Indigenous Governance

Instruction is planned to take place on our Grande Prairie campus. Applications to teach NT2030 and NT2300 remotely through videoconference are welcome.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS




A Masters degree in a relevant academic discipline (e.g. Indigenous Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, History) is required with a PhD preferred. Evidence of successful post-secondary instruction is an asset. Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:


Experience of Indigenous cultures and values and an understanding of contemporary initiatives and issues such as the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action; An understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing and be able to use that transdisciplinary approach to inform their instructional style; Ability to apply different instructional strategies to meet the needs of and support diverse learners; Knowledge of Northwestern Polytechnic courses and current educational technologies (e.g., videoconferencing, learning management systems); Student-focussed; Strong organizational skills; Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and A high level of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
