Lower Fraser Valley Aboriginal Society (LFVAS) is accepting applications for an Indigenous Housing Summer Worker. LFVAS is an Indigenous-led non-profit organization, comprised of a dedicated group of individuals who promote, support, and advocate for services to meet the needs of Indigenous people in Langley.

Reporting to the Housing Team Lead, the Indigenous Housing Summer Worker will assist with the Society's various special events, programs, and services over the summer. The successful applicant will shadow and assist housing outreach workers in providing service to clients by distributing harm reduction supplies, lunches or hygiene products and assisting with intakes; communicate with clients and community partners in person, on the phone or by email; and help staff to organize groups and community events while working as part of a team. This position is ideal for a youth interested in human services, social work, mental health and substance use services, justice.

TERM:

Start ASAP, 9 - 10 weeks

HOURS OF WORK:

30 - 35 hours per week

$17.95/hour

Requirements

Must be between the ages of 16 and 30 Interest in human services with an emphasis on serving vulnerable populations. Relevant fields of study include social work, mental health and substance use services, justice, public health or criminology. Experience volunteering or working with children, youth, and/or vulnerable populations Experienced in Microsoft Office365 applications (e.g., Word, Excel, SharePoint, Outlook) Emergency First Aid with CPR/AED Level A (or willing to complete) Food Safe Level 1 Certificate (or willing to complete) Ability to perform tasks involving moderate physical activity in maintaining an office and working with vulnerable adults, including walking, standing, bending, and lifting of objects/equipment Must be well-versed in cultural sensitivity and have understanding and knowledge of Aboriginal culture, traditions and issues impacting urban Indigenous families
Class 5 BC Drivers License and vehicle (preferred)*

*Experience volunteering or working with children or youth or vulnerable populations is an asset
