Overall Accountability


Within the context of the Alberta Government's First Nations, Metis and Inuit Education Policy Framework, the Indigenous Cultural Liaison Worker provides and supports cultural and spiritual guidance to Indigenous students, families and schools, both to create an inclusive environment for the Indigenous student and to enhance the educational experience and Indigenous student success.


Specific Accountabilities


Collaborates with school and other personnel to: Provide support to students and families Participate in educational program planning for students, student academics (ex. learning support plans, student schedule planning, meeting Graduation requirements). Coordinate community supports and communication for students, families, and schools Collaborates with Elders and Community members Collaborates and works in multiple school settings that includes, one to one, small group and large groups. Provides and supports cultural and spiritual activities for Indigenous students Liaison between school and family for student success Brings in cultural and spiritual activities from outside community supports
Qualifications


Bachelor's Degree in a related field; or Diploma in a related field(s) with a minimum of 3 years directly related experience; or High School Diploma with a minimum of 5 years directly related experience Related experience supporting Indigenous children, youth and families (cultural, spiritual, emotional, and mental wellbeing). Experience, knowledge and understanding to facilitate presentations and Indigenous activities. Valid Alberta Driver's License and a vehicle in good operating condition Able to work independently and in group settings Strong background in Indigenous cultures, languages, and ways Demonstrated collaboration and team-building skills Excellent organizational, interpersonal, technology (data collection and documentation of school and family supports) and communication skills Capable of working with Indigenous community members outside of the District
