Your Opportunity:At the Glenrose Social Work, Spiritual Care, and Indigenous Health Department we actively contribute to a respectful and inclusive workplace. Reporting to the Manager of Social Work, this casual position provides direct care to Indigenous patients and families, collaborates with and provides input to care teams, supports projects and committee-based work, creates and sustains community relationships as appropriate, initiates and leads cultural teaching and learning opportunities, and works closely with the Indigenous Health Coordinator on-site. This position is a key component to providing integrated and culturally appropriate health care service delivery that improves the experiences and rehab outcomes of Indigenous patients and families. This position provides care by enhancing and improving experiences of safety for Indigenous patients and families using relationships, collaboration, advocacy, and appropriate Indigenous practices and approaches informed by cultural teachings, protocols, and Indigenous knowledge systems.Description:The Glenrose supports Indigenous patients and families from across Alberta including remote and northern communities from other provinces and territories who have specific traditions and needs when it comes to specialized tertiary care. The Indigenous Health Coordinator contributes to hospitality and enhances clinical capacity for spiritual and cultural support to diverse Indigenous peoples engaging with our services. The Indigenous Health Coordinator (IHC) is primarily patient-focused and provides meaningful support, maximizes opportunities for cultural safety, makes community connections, and facilitates access to Indigenous health practices that benefit patients and families. The IHC supports and creates educational opportunities regarding respectful relationships and health care for Indigenous peoples to foster understanding between Indigenous patients and health care providers. Under the guidance and direction of the Manager, the IHC can contribute to development and improvement projects, support site-based Truth and Reconciliation advancements, develop cultural activities and events, and collaborate with external and internal partners.

Required Qualifications:Having permissions, training and guidance in the use of traditional Indigenous approaches to wellbeing in a programmatic setting. Ability to incorporate cultural safety into all aspects of practice. Ability to develop knowledge and understanding of local Indigenous culture and traditions. Ability to develop collaborative relationships in the interests of providing culturally safe care and services. Ability to effectively apply conflict resolution skills. Ability to problem-solve, demonstrating critical thinking and decision-making skills using a systems approach. Ability to promote sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, patient advocacy, and social justice concerns. Ability to organize work, set objectives and establish priorities. Ability to foster teamwork and a commitment to excellence in the provision of care. Ability to organize work and implement a plan of care. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. Ability to demonstrate flexibility and opened mindedness with all aspects of programming.
Additional Required Qualifications:Knowledge and respect for the diversity of Indigenous identities, experiences, and communities. Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, practices, histories, worldviews, ethics and values. Knowledge and ability to support use of Indigenous protocol, medicines, and health practices. Ability to work independently and as part of a health care team. Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively. Demonstrates good written skills and use of relevant computer software.
Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of an Indigenous language will be considered an asset. Experience in a health care setting will be considered an asset. Degree in health care or social sciences will be considered an asset.
