About Our Opportunity

The Inclusive Education Consultant works collaboratively to promote culturally and linguistically responsive, inclusive practices that support the well-being and achievement of learners with diverse needs including those with disabilities and those with complex health and medical concerns. The Consultant will play a lead role to develop and enhance programming and services and professional learning opportunities through a Multi-Tiered System of Support in alignment with the Nova Scotia\'s Inclusive Education Policy. The Consultant will also have responsibilities related to TIENET.

As a consultant within Student Service and Equity Branch your may be asked work on initiatives related to the Inclusive Education Policy and to collaborate on other initiatives within the Branch. You will liaise with RCEs/CSAP, other government departments and agencies, educational organizations, community groups, and associations.

As the Inclusive Education Consultant, reporting to the Director of Student Services, you will provide leadership, training, and appropriate staff development to support learners and educators in the public-school system.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Provide leadership, support, and direction to Regional Centres for Education and CSAP on a range of issues, programming and initiatives that support students with diverse needs.
  • Provide leadership in identifying and promoting evidence-based practises regarding assessment, programming, and intervention to support and promote the well-being and achievement for all learners.
  • Research and evaluate new developments and best practices related to supporting the students with disabilities, complex medical conditions, and diverse needs through an inclusive education lens and MTSS framework.
  • Work collaboratively across government and outside agencies in relation to initiatives and programs that support all students. Consult with colleagues within/outside the province in relation to current trends and practices.
  • Collect, review, research and compile reports and prepare correspondence as requested for the Minister and Deputy Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, Senior Management and Director of Student Services.
  • Provide strategic support and insight for EECD and regional/CSAP staff in addressing issues arising in schools for students with disabilities, health needs, and their families. This includes liaising with families and Regional Centres for Education, CSAP and EECD staff to support resolution for cases presenting challenges to resolve.
  • Ensure the simultaneous release of documents in both French and English and performs other related responsibilities as may be required by the Director
Qualifications and Experience

As the successful candidate, you will have a B.Ed., M.Ed. and eight years related experience, including experience in developing and carrying out professional development, programming, and services within the public school system.

You work well independently and can work collaboratively as a contributing member to multidisciplinary teams and committees. You can build productive relationships with non-governmental and governmental members (both internally and externally). When dealing with colleagues, you exercise tact, diplomacy, and sound judgment.

You have extensive knowledge related to Student Services and the impact of diverse learning needs throughout the lifespan. You are familiar with current evidence-based practises related to MTSS and program planning, current programming and services used in Nova Scotia schools. You have experience supporting the transition of students into school as well as transition from high school to further education or workplace opportunities.

You possess knowledge of Provincial and Regional Education Centre or CSAP policies, guidelines and procedures and the rights and responsibilities of parents, students, teachers, and schools as they relate to individuals with special needs.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Pay Grade: PR 20

Salary Range: $3,387.99 - $3,989.08 Bi-Weekly
