About the Role:The Inclusion Support Staff position provides assistance, tools, and resources to create an environment where all children belong. This role ensures positive inclusive program delivery with a focus on physical literacy, cooperative play, and confidence building in keeping with High Five and Y Healthy Child Standards curriculum. You will be directly involved in delivering child-centric, development-based programming for school-age youth (ages 4-12), championing the importance of physical literacy as a cornerstone to building healthy communities.In this role, you will:
  • Provide additional support to children who may require assistance in day-to-day programming, encouraging engagement and participation in all activities related to the child\xe2\x80\x99s interests.
  • Monitor and support participants using best practices to create a safe and supportive environment.
  • Plan and implement various program plans and supports as needed by the afterschool program participants.
  • Deliver hands-on program activities for school-age youth (ages 5-12) in a safe, inclusive, and positive environment, adhering to YMCA quality, Child Protection standards, school safety requirements, and provincial regulations.
  • Foster positive, collaborative relationships with parents and caregivers to support and enhance children\xe2\x80\x99s learning and development, ensuring individual needs are met.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to ensure timely and meaningful resolution of parent concerns regarding program delivery.
  • Complete necessary program documentation and administrative activities to support efficient program delivery and fulfillment of YMCA and provincial requirements.
Education and Skills Qualifications:
  • Highschool Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with a strong reference.
  • Training or equivalent experience working directly with youth who require additional support.
  • 1-2 years of childcare experience with demonstrable evidence linked to the role\xe2\x80\x99s responsibilities.
  • Experience in planning and organizing games, sports, arts, crafts, cultural activities, and leading field trips.
  • Post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education or a related field is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the school system and community resources is an asset.
  • Demonstrated cross-cultural communication skills to work with youth, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to meet multiple, competing deadlines and priorities with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation/workshop facilitation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and the ability to establish rapport with clients.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office Skills.
  • Valid Nova Scotia Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License or access to reliable transportation.
  • Flexibility to work outside regular hours as needed.
