The Technician will support the Consultants and Technical Leads in applying scientific methodology to investigate and determine the extent of damage to indoor building finishes and materials from a hazardous material perspective, which may lead to legal activity, including both civil and criminal; potentially assisting a court or other parties to determine the facts of a failure or accident. The role will mostly work with insurance adjusters but may work with attorneys. Some assignments may include the analysis of property damage, fire and explosion, catastrophic claims, and equipment/machinery failures.
It is Envista's intention for this role to gradually gain independence and track towards becoming a Project Consultant, with support of the IH project team.
Primary job responsibilities:Support site assessments on commercial, industrial, and residential sites, including delineation of hazardous material and building/content damage, led by the Project Consultant, Senior Consultant and/or Technical Lead
Take detailed and comprehensive field notes and photographs; support Consultants with photo and notes organization and file management
Collection of samples from site following appropriate collection and handling methods, transport of samples to laboratory facilities under chain of custody best practises
Coordinate the booking and pick-up of field sampling equipment and support with equipment and sample transportation to and from project sites
Maintain established relationships with current clients and consultants
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities/Experience1-2 years of experience. Experienced gained during post-secondary education will be considered
Science or engineering degree preferred. Work experience in a construction/abatement environment will be considered in lieu of formal post-secondary education
Familiar with Health and Safety Legislation, in particular Ontario Regulation 278/05, 490/09, and 833/90
Professional and collaborative attitude
Coachable, self-motivated, and solution-driven
Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize and triage tasks and meet deadlines
Has a drivers license, access to a vehicle, able to travel locally and occasionally out of province; willingness to occasionally work outside of standard working hours (i.e., on weekends, early mornings, evenings if required for assessments and inspections)
Able to stand and walk for several hours, carry up to 30 lbs, and climb a ladder
