The Edmonton Police Services has an exciting opportunity for an individual to provide identification processing services under the authority of the Identification of the Criminal Acts of persons charged with criminal offences and the collection of DNA under the Criminal Code from persons ordered by the court. The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Obtaining fingerprints, mug shot photographs and descriptive information of persons charged with or convicted of a dual and/or indictable offense by methods of Ink and Livescan.
  • Providing a fingerprint analysis and comparison for confirmation of identity and comparison of latent friction ridge impressions against known suspect fingerprints for identification purposes.
  • Conducting tenprint fingerprint searches in the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) and / or registration of tenprints.
  • Taking fingerprints of EPS staff for employment purposes.
  • Conducting subject searches on ORCA, EPROS, EMugs, CPIC and JOIN.
  • Obtaining DNA samples from persons ordered by the courts to provide samples.
  • Responding to correctional facilities to collect DNA samples and/or fingerprints.
  • Dealing with persons with outstanding warrants and turning them over to police officers.
  • Preparing and giving evidence in court.
  • Data entry to various databases of information collected during the identification and DNA collection processes.
  • Performing other related duties as required.

Qualifications:
  • Successful completion of a two (2) year Community College Law Enforcement program.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in fingerprinting.
  • Understanding of the Criminal Code and the Identification of Criminals Act.
  • Knowledge of fingerprinting techniques and practices.
  • Ability to handle and resolve confrontational situations.
  • Accuracy and attention to details.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of this position.
  • Successfully complete an in-house Identification of Criminals training course and a one-year understudy program.
  • Have a valid Class 5 Alberta driver\'s license.
  • Ability to work shift work, including weekends and holidays.
  • The successful applicant will be required to meet the requirements of and be appointed as a Community Peace Officer by the Department of Justice and Solicitor General, for the Province of Alberta.
  • As part of your pre-hire screening, you completed an Enhanced Security Clearance. By accepting employment with the Edmonton Police Service, you acknowledge and agree to participate in future Enhanced Security Re-Clearances at scheduled intervals during the course of your employment.
Hours of Work:
12 hour rotating shifts to provide 24-hour coverage, 7 days a week.

Salary:
21B, Salary Grade: 017, $30.48 - $38.28 (Hourly), $2,438.60 - $3,063.00 (Bi-Weekly), $63,646.42 - $79,943.26 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton. General:
