Position: Hydroponic System Builder Location: Whitehorse, Yukon Salary Range: $25/ hr Term: 4 month internship with potential for continued employment. This internship opportunity is presented as part of the \xe2\x80\x9cYouth Employment and Skills Program\xe2\x80\x9d coordinated by Agriculture and Agri-Foods Canada. As such, eligible applicants must be between 15-30 years of age to be considered for this employment opportunity. ColdAcre is a new start-up whose mission is to provide community-driven, reliable, fresh food in the North. Through our construction division we design, fabricate and deploy containerized hydroponic systems and greenhouses throughout Canada. We are continually expanding and searching for a hard working, smart and motivated staff to join our team. ColdAcre values work ethic, attitude and problem solving abilities over work experience and will review every applicant on a case by case basis. This position would best suit someone with an interest in construction who is looking to gain experience in an emerging field. Hydroponic Systems Builder will:
- Work under the direction of the Construction Superintendent
- Construct Spec Greenhouses from start to finish including all required systems
- Repurpose Sea-cans into spec growing systems
- Install and troubleshoot water pumps, plumbing fixtures, lighting and HVAC components, and growing trays into hydroponic units
- Travel to communities to complete installation of growing units
- An interest in carpentry, plumbing or electrical work
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, materials and standard practices relevant to the carpentry trade
- Able to follow direction, stay on task and complete work as required
- Goal oriented collaboration with peers, management team, and colleagues
- Ability to problem solve and overcome barriers
- Must be flexible and willing to perform other work as needed
- Valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license with a clean driving record (required)
- Traveling for final installations will be required
