The Human Resources Coordinator is a new part-time role to support our growing organization, working to advance the Conservatory's core values of Excellence, Inclusivity and Accessibility, Stewardship and Accountability, Leadership, and Innovation. This includes responsibilities in recruitment and onboarding, employee relations and engagement, HR administration, benefits and payroll support, and HR policy development and compliance. This role reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment and Onboarding
Assist all departments with posting job openings on the Conservatory website and external job boards.
Screen resumes and coordinate interview schedules with applicable managers.
Conduct reference checks.
Prepare contracts to send out and maintain communication throughout hiring process and onboarding.
Advise managers on succession planning as appropriate.
HR Administration
Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in a confidential manner.
Assist with the administration of employee changes including promotions, transfers, leaves, and terminations.
Maintain the organizational chart and the staff contact list, posting updates to internal communication site.
Prepare HR-related reports and research as required for all areas of the business.
Benefits and Payroll Support
Assist with employee benefits enrollment, changes, and inquiries.
Liaise with payroll and benefits providers as needed to resolve issues.
Employee Relations and Engagement
Help coordinate staff engagement activities, training sessions, and events.
Support initiatives and communications that promote a positive, inclusive, and creative workplace culture.
Serve as a point of contact for staff questions regarding policies, HR procedures, and disputes.
Compile notes on staff and faculty workplace issues and complaints, and ensure they are passed onto the appropriate staff leader. Advise leaders as appropriate on resolution options.
Compliance and Policy
Ensure HR practices comply with local, provincial and federal employment laws.
Assist with updating, creating, and maintaining HR policies and the communication of those policies to all relevant groups, e.g., faculty, students, staff.

Qualifications and Requirements
The ideal candidate brings enthusiasm and a desire to make a difference in a not-for-profit organization.
Education:
Ideally includes post-secondary credentials or professional designation in human resources, business administration, or a related field. HR professional designation is a plus.
Experience:
At least 2-5 years of relevant HR experience including recruitment, onboarding, policy/admin support, employee relations. Understanding of Canadian employment laws and provincial legislation, and how they apply.
HR skills/functional competencies:
Familiarity with HR systems and strong administrative/office technology skills.
Personal and interpersonal skills:
Tactful written and verbal communication, ability to work with all levels of staff, strong organizational/time-management skills, confidentiality, and alignment with the Conservatory's purpose and values.
Compensation and Benefits
Half-time compensation of $40,000 plus paid annual leave, plus a paid week during an institutional closure for the December holidays, pro-rated to half-time according to employer's standard benefits package triggered after three months of service. Health and retirement benefits include an RSP group program at BMO with matching contributions up to 5% of salary, and access to all concerts and events at Conservatory venues along with frequent opportunities and invitations to attend community events.
