Overview


We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Human Resources Manager to lead our HR strategy and associated programs and initiatives to maintain an engaged and productive workforce. The Manager of Human Resources works collaboratively with the entire senior leadership team of Copernicus Lodge to lead and roll out all human resources and labour relations, time and attendance and payroll programs, systems and DEI strategy consistently and effectively. The goal of this position is to have a healthy and engaged workplace to meet our operational needs of today and into the future including striving to fulfill our Vision.

This position is an integral partner in creating and leading HR strategy for the entire organization but at the same time is also a hands-on position to facilitate the day-to-day operations related to all HR programs, initiatives, business objectives and goals for this 24/7 day health care continuum of care

Responsibilities



Provide HR consulting, subject matter advice and expertise to employees, managers and directors throughout the organization on complex employee and labour relations issues, including collective agreement interpretation, application of employment legislation and organizational policies, compensation matters, accommodation issues, workplace violence, harassment and discrimination complaints, and other Human Resources issues with recommendations for resolution/outcomes. Provide leadership in all matters relating to employee relations programs, legally compliant policies, and other efforts toward the development and maintenance of effective and productive work environments for the organization. Provide guidance on the resolution of organizational/cultural issues and complex personnel matters in collaboration with site management and HR representatives. Provide guidance and advise management on organizational and policy matters such as equal employment opportunity and harassment concerns, and recommend changes . Provide HR consulting to the various business units (including site HR representatives) regarding HR matters, including employee/labor relations, HR policies/procedures and other HR initiatives . Benchmark labour market strategy: Conduct regular market analyses to benchmark our compensation and benefits packages against industry standards Be the back-up for the payroll and benefits supervisor. Conducts risk assessments, investigations and assists in the development of safety plans in response to safety concerns legislative/risk requirements and workplace accidents including violence in the workplace Participate in strategic planning, accreditation activities, and committees as requested, and attends Board of Director meetings Tracks, prepares and presents all HR reporting, HR metrics and HR programs to the HR Committee of the Board of Directors Works with the management team to maintain and enhance the provision of care and service with customer service culture and focus Serves as liaison with external entities including other Long Term Care Homes and Community Services providing services to seniors. Oversees the maintenance of employees' human resources files and other confidential files Act as the lead for the online learning platforms and ensures educational and training records Effective implementation of time and attendance/HRIS systems for the organization; back-up to overseeing bi-weekly payroll administration Develops and effective implementation of all compensation and benefit programs for the organization including adherence to the collective agreement and all Labour laws Liaises and supports the Chair of the Human Resources & Governance committee of the Board of Directors on all matters pertaining to the Human Resources and Labour Relations matters of the Lodge. Implement, oversee and maintain the payroll and time & attendance systems. Maintains, monitors and presents to Management and the board of directors all statistical and Key Performance Indicators for human resources, scheduling and payroll data for day to day operations and strategic and business planning purposes . Develops, leads and oversees the recruitment, retention, engagement and succession planning processes for the organization . Leads and manages all leaves of absences and return to work plans including WSIB claims prevention and management. Works with the management team to maintain and enhance the provision of care and service with customer service culture and focus. Oversees the maintenance of employees' human resources files and other confidential files. Maintains accurate documentation and records for all matters handled. Researches, organizes, documents and completes special projects assigned by the Chief Executive Officer.

Qualifications:



Post-Secondary Education in Human Resources, Bachelor in HR Management or Labour/Industrial Relations preferred. Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) required or CHRL certification preferred. Human Resources Professional Association (HRPA) membership in good standing required. Minimum of 5 years current related Human Resources experience preferably in a unionized environment at the management level experience required. Experience in the not-for-profit health/public sector preferred. Advanced knowledge of relevant legislation, including, but not limited to the Ontario Employment Standards Act and Regulations, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and Regulations; Ontario Human Rights Code, Labour Relations Act, Pay Equity Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations and proven ability to provide advice on the application of these acts. Knowledge of Long-Term Care Homes Act and Regulations, an asset. Must have experience in areas of employment law, employee relations, grievance handling, recruitment, accommodation/modified work placements, conflict resolution, displacements/terminations. Demonstrated advanced skills in investigation, analysis, coaching, negotiation, mediation, conflict resolution, critical thinking, and problem solving. Strong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to build credibility and strong partnerships at all levels by fostering positive relations with employees, unions and external partners through engagement and leadership. Advanced computer skills (Outlook, Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) with a strong aptitude for technology and computer-based tools. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills. Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize work, meet deadlines, be detail oriented and accurate, in a fast-paced environment. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in the workplace. Experienced with developing and implementing recruitment strategies. Experience in overseeing payroll a definite asset. Demonstrated skill and knowledge to deal with all aspects of diversity in the workplace. An understanding of the business and human resources strategy and within a non-for profit organization an asset. Knowledge of statistical concepts and methods utilized in human resource processes and data collection. Understanding and ability to use financial data in decision-making and planning. In-depth knowledge of and skill in managing complex employment and employee relations issues. Knowledge of statistical methods and concepts and other analytical tools used in human resources processes. Interest and experience in the not-for-profit, charitable healthcare sector including long-term care an asset; Must be willing to work flexible hours to meet the needs of a 24/7 day-a-week operation. Must be able to work a few weekends as part of a shared rotational weekend Managers on duty schedule. Must be willing to work some variable hours to attend some organizational events.
