Boggio Pharmacy is one of the largest networks of independent pharmacies in the Niagara Region with 10 stores across the area and growing. Job Purpose
Reporting to the "Principal" owners, the Human Resources Manager ("HRM") will have responsibility for the Human Resources function including; talent acquisition and development, compensation and benefits, employee relations, policies and practices, health & safety and employment legislative compliance. Of primary importance, this position will be a partner to the Designated Managers ("DM's") and Business leaders to provide counsel and advisory services to ensure consistent application of all people processes and programs. Overall, the HRM will focus on maximizing the company's people resources and driving a stronger performing culture while meeting all statutory and regulatory requirements. The HRM will also play a critical role in partnering with the "Equity" owners supporting them in driving growth and sustainable people practices in their respective locations. With a proven performance culture mindset and solid general business acumen, the HRM with guidance from the Principal Owners will provide direction to the company in the pursuit of its performance goals.
Operationally, the HRM will blend strong core skills in people planning & analysis, engaging the workforce and ensuring the organization remains compliant with current employment standards, human rights and employment equity legislation. In doing so, s/he will draw upon a track record of building scalable people processes with limited infrastructure in a fast paced, change-oriented environment.
Key Accountabilities
The HRM's responsibilities include the following:
Trusting Partnership:
The HRM will be a true business partner to the Principal owners, providing thoughtful advice, guidance, and direction. S/he will play a leading role in creating the long-term people practices and systems to support Boggio's strategic plan for future growth. S/he will support the DM's in fostering the improved performance of the pharmacies across the network. The Principal owners will also look to the HRM to provide sage counsel opposite the company's M&A plans and initiatives, providing people program analysis and insights in preparation and participating where required in subsequent due diligence and integration activities. The HRM will assist the Principal Owners in harmonizing and integrating of acquisitions/projects through alignment of people practices, setting standards, monitoring ongoing operations, and integrating newly acquired companies.
People Operations:
The HRM will introduce and leverage new tools and automation to optimize peoples processes to ensure business scalability. S/he will ensure accurate information and data quality by maintaining a strong control environment within the "Payworks" payroll and Human Capital Management System ("HCMS") and will create a road map that provides the organization with the ability to maximize and leverage the digitization of its SaaS software.
Talent Acquisition & Development
: Paramount to success in the role entails developing talent acquisition strategies to attract and retain the highest calibre pharmacy talent. This includes handling full cycle recruitment and onboarding by developing strategies to attract and retain pharmacists and key leaders. This also includes managing the succession planning process to ensure there is a healthy balance of successors to drive business sustainability. The HRM will lead the training and development initiatives that drive better leadership decision making and enhance the ability of the organization to hit its stretch goals.
Driving a Performance Culture
: At the heart of this role, the HRM needs to champion a higher performing culture. By providing leading edge engagement, employee relations and employee recognition programs while optimizing the performance management system and ensuring the right talent are in the right roles is critical for role success. This role is also vital to providing a career pathway for all employees to aspire to as they develop and grow in the company.
Health & Safety/Legislative Compliance:
The HRM will manage the corporate health, safety & wellness programs based on regulatory requirements, industry standards and recognized best practices nurturing a safety culture. S/he will conduct and review investigations, advise on policy violations and make recommendations for corrective action. S/he will be accountable for the safety and security of employees and store workplaces and ensure that employees work safely and in compliance with relevant statutes and regulations and within the safe work procedures and directives as established by the Occupational Health and Safety Act ("OHSA"). S/he will liaise with the various provincial ministries, boards, external lawyers, consultants, insurance brokers & carriers as needed.
Total Rewards:
The HRM will develop, recommend, implement, administer and ensure compliance of the total rewards compensation program, including salary, job evaluation and pay equity, benefits and pension programs. The HRM will coordinate payroll processing, timekeeping reviews, and benefits administration in partnership with the payroll and Payworks team.
Team Leadership
: The HRM will be present, visible (hands-on) and deeply committed to building the skills and capabilities of his/her team, identifying areas to improve efficiency within the function broadly, while investing in individual team development. H/she will have unwavering integrity, a strong work ethic and operate with grace and humility.
Controls & Reporting:
The HRM will help design and develop people structures and systems relating to performance measurement. This will establish tracking, analysis and communication of human resources performance within store operations including turnover, absence management, productivity and vacancy rates.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
University degree, or equivalent, in a specialized field such as business administration, labour relations, or Human Resource Management.
Minimum 8+ years of progressively related experience including five (3-5) years in a management capacity.
CHRL designation or working towards a CHRP level certification.
Well versed in employee relations with demonstrated extensive knowledge of provincial employment statutory obligations, policies, procedures and standards.
Advanced level understanding of compensation, payroll and benefits, job evaluation and pay equity
Ability to speak publicly and articulately as well as make decisions on complex and sensitive issues in an impartial and authoritative manner while balancing multiple competing interests.
Demonstrated experience in leadership and the ability to exercise a high level of independence
Demonstrated experience in leading edge talent acquisition, talent development, employee relations, payroll coordination, and general HR operations including health and safety and HCMS applications.
Proven ability to build trust and credibility with both frontline employees and management teams.
Strong communication, judgment, and organizational skills in a hands-on, high-volume retail environment.
Proficiency with HCMS and payroll/time-tracking systems (e.g., Payworks, ADP, Dayforce) and MS Office Suite.
Willingness to travel across the Ontario region mostly in Niagara and the GTA.
Size of Team
The HRM will lead a team of 2, an HR Coordinator and a Payroll/HR Administrator with responsibility for all people activities of Boggio Pharmacy.
