Role Overview:
We are looking for a Human Resource Manager for one of our portfolio companies, a leading company in plant propagation, based in Langley, BC. This role will oversee all aspects of HR management, ensuring compliance with Canadian employment legislation, developing HR strategies that align with business goals, and fostering a positive, safe, and engaging work environment for employees across greenhouse and office operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement HR policies, programs, and best practices to support the company's growth and people-first culture.
Partner with senior management to align workforce planning with operational and production needs.
Lead full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies to build a strong and diverse workforce.
Identify staffing needs and ensure the timely placement of skilled employees.
Oversee payroll coordination, benefits administration, and HRIS data accuracy.
Conduct regular HR reporting and workforce analytics to support decision-making.
Keeps records of insurance coverage, pension plan, and personnel transactions, such as hires, promotions, transfers, and terminations.
Prepares and analyzes department budget to identify budget needs and/or reductions, and may allocate operating budget funds. May supervise clerical workers.
Liaises and collaborates with various levels of management to determine areas that require strengthening and/or improvement of workforce learning and development.
Collaborates with subject matter experts to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
Contributes to and drives the implementation of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives such as promoting fair and equitable hiring practices and developing an inclusive workplace culture.
Employee Relations & Engagement
Serve as the primary contact for employee relations, handling workplace concerns, conflict resolution, and performance management.
Implement employee recognition, engagement, and wellness programs to improve retention and workplace satisfaction.
Investigates accidents and grievance and document reports for management or third party providers.
Participates in compensation and benefit administration cycle including but not limited to conducts wage survey within labor market to determine competitive wage rate and remain apprised of current trends.
Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure compliance with British Columbia Employment Standards, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health & Safety, and other applicable legislation.
Manage workplace investigations and maintain accurate employee records.
Training & Development
Design and deliver employee training programs focused on skill development, compliance, and leadership growth.
Support succession planning and career development initiatives.
Identify training needs and facilitate trainings as applicable.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (CPHR designation is an asset).
5+ years of progressive HR management or generalist experience, preferably in agriculture, food production, or manufacturing.
Experience with full cycle HR generalist functions (pay and performance planning, goal setting, open enrollment etc.)
Strong knowledge of BC employment legislation, OH&S standards, and HR best practices.
Proven ability to lead HR initiatives in dynamic, fast-paced, and multicultural environments.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
Proficiency in HRIS, MS Office Suite, and data-driven HR decision-making.
Nice to have:
Manufacturing industry-specific experience is a strong advantage.
Experience working in the farming industry
