Summary



We are seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join our team in St. Thomas, Ontario. The HR Generalist is responsible for providing comprehensive human resources support within a retail pharmacy environment. This role supports the employee life cycle, ensuring effective recruitment, onboarding, performance management, staff development, and day-to-day HR operations across multiple retail pharmacy locations. The HR Generalist is a key partner to pharmacy managers and acts as a resource for employees, fostering a positive, compliant, and growth-focused workplace culture.

Duties & Responsibilities



Recruitment & Onboarding

- Manage full-cycle recruitment for retail pharmacy roles (e.g., Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Assistants, Customer Service Associates, Home Healthcare staff).

- Develop role profiles, job postings, interview guides, and assist hiring managers through the selection process.

- Facilitate structured onboarding and orientation programs to ensure new hires are fully integrated into store culture and expectations.

Employee Relations & HR Support

- Provide day-to-day HR guidance to managers and employees, ensuring consistent application of HR policies and practices.

- Assist with conflict resolution, coaching, attendance management, and progressive discipline processes.

- Support compliance with employment legislation, professional pharmacy standards, and internal policies.

Performance & Staff Development

- Coordinate and maintain the annual performance review process, including mid-year check-ins, goal setting, and development planning.

- Support managers in delivering constructive performance conversations and coaching for improved performance.

- Identify training gaps and develop staff training initiatives (technical skills, customer experience, compliance, leadership skills).

- Track certification renewals, mandatory pharmacy training, and continuing education requirements.

- Contribute to succession planning by assisting managers in identifying high-potential employees and development pathways.

HR Programs, Culture & Engagement

- Support employee engagement initiatives to enhance workplace culture, recognition, and retention.

- Promote a positive work environment focused on customer service excellence, accountability, and professional growth.

- Assist with internal communications, wellness initiatives, and staff events.

HR Operations & Compliance

- Maintain accurate and confidential employee records (HRIS, personnel files, training logs, performance documentation).

- Prepare HR reports and metrics (recruitment, turnover, training completion, leave tracking).

- Participate in policy updates and ensure communication of new policies or changes across retail locations.

- Support Health & Safety initiatives, workplace inspections, incident reporting, and return-to-work programs.

Qualifications



- Post-secondary education in Human Resources, or related field.

- Minimum 2-4 years HR experience, ideally in a retail, healthcare, or pharmacy environment.

- Strong knowledge of provincial employment legislation and best HR practices.

- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and influence at all levels.

- Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.

- Strong communication and facilitation skills, with experience delivering training or coaching preferred.

Working Conditions



The HR Generalist will primarily work in an office setting, Monday to Friday. The role may involve working extended hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet employee commitments and address urgent issues. The position requires frequent communication with team members, necessitating multitasking and effective coordination across departments.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $52,500.00-$60,000.00 per year
