Job Description

Working out of Dufferin Oaks Long Term Care Home, the Human Resource (HR) Generalist contributes to the overall effectiveness of the Human Resource team by providing support to managers, supervisors and employees on Human Resources functions including; recruitment and selection, new employee orientation and onboarding, and attraction and retention initiatives and strategies.

This position currently follows a hybrid work schedule, with three days per week onsite and two days remote.

What you'll do



Provide guidance in the areas of workforce planning, attraction, and selection of top talent

Partner with County departments to build a workforce that can deliver on the current and future goals and objectives of the organization

Responsible for all aspects of the recruitment process for Union positions

Consult with managers to provide an overview of the recruitment process, understand and review department needs in relation to the vacancy, ensure existing job description is accurate and recommend appropriate recruitment strategies

Ensure Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategies are embedded, applied and supported throughout recruitment initiatives

Represent the County of Dufferin at career fairs

Perform and facilitate the new hire orientation and onboarding

Coordinate the hiring and re-hiring of summer students

Revise and update job descriptions and organizational charts based on Department Head approval

Perform exit interviews and manage exit interview statistics, including compiling results submitted via the online exit survey

Coordinate and assist with the County Long Service & Retiree Awards event

Assist in the development and implementation of employee attraction, engagement, and retention initiatives

Assist with departmental projects and initiatives

Other duties as assigned

What you'll bring



Post secondary diploma in Human Resources Management or a related field

Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP)

Minimum two (2) years experience in a human resources role

Recruitment experience that embraces diversity, equity and inclusion strategies (DEI)

Experience working in a unionized environment

Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

Ability to think and interact effectively, tactfully and courteously with all levels of staff, building a cooperative and collaborative working relationship with internal and external customers

Ability to apply a DEI lens to all aspects of work

Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures including the Ontario Employment Standards Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Pay Equity Act, Labour Relations Act, and the Ontario Health and Safety Act, and the Long Term Care Homes Act

Suitable work from home environment including reliable high speed internet

Satisfactory police vulnerable sector screening

Two Step Tuberculosis test

Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination

Valid Class G driver's license and access to reliable transportation
