North Bay Indigenous Hub - Human Resources Generalist





One (1) Permanent, Full-Time Position (Comp # 2025-10-07.2)



The North Bay Indigenous Hub (NBIH) will provide a wide range of programming services including traditional healing, primary care, health promotion, chronic disease management, family-focused maternal/child health care, mental wellness care, diabetes care, and a culturally integrated licensed child care facility and EarlyON program. All of the programs are to be delivered in a culturally safe manner to the local urban Indigenous population in addition to our partner First Nations, Nipissing, Temagami and Dokis First Nations. This new agency seeks a motivated, self-starter who is passionate about enhancing the North Bay Indigenous Hub's human resources department by recruitment, orientation & retention, pension & benefits support, and human resources programs and practices.





Under the direction of the Executive Director of the North Bay Indigenous Hub (NBIH), this position will be responsible to deliver human resource support to the North Bay Indigenous Hub (NBIH).

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:




Bachelor's degree from university, college diploma or relevant work experience required Experience working with Indigenous agencies and has a thorough understanding of Indigenous history and ways of being 3+ years of experience in progressively responsible human resource roles 2+ years of experience in employee relations 2+ years of experience in a supervisory role Certified Human Resources Professional designation



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:



Knowledge of the Indigenous community of North Bay and partner First Nations: Nipissing, Dokis and Temagami First Nations Demonstrated experience in recruitment and benefits administration Expertise in communication processes Knowledge about supporting diversity in a new agency Knowledgeable of employment law and other work place legal requirements Ability to communicate information effectively through a variety of means including meetings, emails, reports, letters, and presentations Highly organized, ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task Ability to communicate and work effectively on an interdisciplinary team High level of sound and independent judgment, reasoning and discretion in accordance with NBIH policies and procedures Ability to work with diverse Indigenous groups and elements of their cultures including Indigenous spirituality, physical activity, and healing methodology Computer skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) Adherence and working knowledge of Personal Health Information Privacy Act (PHIPA) Ability to work in a kind, supportive manner with Indigenous people and families



RESPONSIBILITIES:




Enhances the North Bay Indigenous Hub's human resources by recruitment, orientation & retention, pension & benefits support, and human resources programs and practices. Maintains the work structure by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions. Supports staff by establishing a recruiting, testing, and interviewing program; recommending on candidate selection; conducting and analyzing exit interviews; and recommending changes. Prepares employees for assignments by establishing and conducting orientation and training programs Ensures planning, monitoring, and appraisal of employee work results, and discipline employees; scheduling management conferences with employees; hearing and resolving employee grievances; and counseling employees and supervisors Implements employee benefits programs and informs employees of benefits by studying and assessing benefit needs and trends; recommending benefit programs to management. Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and provincial requirements and maintaining records as per standards Enforces management guidelines by preparing, updating, and recommending human resource policies and procedures. Retains historical human resource records by designing a filing and retrieval system and keeping past and current records. Facilitates recruiting, selecting, orienting, and creating training plans for new employees. Advances staff job results by counseling and disciplining employees; and planning, monitoring, and appraising job results. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Participation in regular staff meetings. Active team player and contributor towards NBIH goals in enabling positive outcomes for our community. Integrate and reinforce concepts of wholistic health from an Indigenous perspective. Foster a positive work environment. Act as a professional and knowledgeable role model or mentor to colleagues and students. Other duties as required.
