Position Summary
The Human Resources Generalist provides day-to-day HR support for a unionized manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for administering HR policies and programs, supporting employee relations, and ensuring compliance with employment legislation and company standards. The HR Generalist will partner with managers and employees to foster a positive and productive work environment. This role will be based on-site 5 days per week and expected to be available to support the Night Shift a few times per month.
Key Responsibilities
Provide guidance to managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and employment legislation.
Manage employee relations processes--including grievances, discipline, investigations, and documentation--while ensuring adherence to the collective agreement.
Maintain strong relationships with union representatives and ensure consistent communication to address workplace issues proactively.
Support performance management processes, including coaching supervisors on progressive discipline and documentation.
Assist with employee engagement initiatives and promote a positive workplace culture.
Administer HR programs such as attendance management and leave administration.
Maintain accurate HR records and prepare reports on workforce metrics.
Ensure compliance with employment laws, health and safety regulations, and company policies.
Assist with reporting requirements as needed.
Coordinate training programs for employees and supervisors on HR policies and workplace practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
2-5 years of professional human resources generalist experience in a unionized manufacturing or industrial environment.
Experience with disciplinary actions, grievances, investigations and know how to interpret and advise on HR policy.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
