The Human Resource Officer supports the effective functioning of the HR department by administering human resource policies, practices, and procedures. The role involves managing employee relations, supporting recruitment and onboarding, overseeing compliance with labor regulations, and fostering a positive work environment. The HR Officer also plays a key role in conflict resolution, grievance handling, and proactive mitigation of workplace issues to maintain a productive and respectful workplace. The role will glean strategic HR insights and support organizational goals, particularly in areas of workforce planning, organizational development, and change management, from the Executive Director and Board of Directors Human Resources Committee.
Key Responsibilities:
Employee & Labor Relations:
In the event staff and management are unable to resolve issues that arise related to employee relations and concerns, the Human Resource officer would serve as the point of contact and ensure matters are mitigated in a timely and professional manner.
Assist in the investigation and resolution of employee grievances, complaints, and disciplinary matters.
Support the implementation and communication of HR policies and procedures to ensure consistency and fairness.
Advise and mentor leadership positions and staff on best practices related to employee relations, conduct, and performance.
Maintain records of employee relations issues, investigations, and outcomes for legal compliance and HR reporting.
Workplace Issue Mitigation & Conflict Resolution:
Identify and address potential sources of conflict in the workplace.
Facilitate conflict resolution processes between employees or between staff and management.
Mediate and recommend solutions to resolve interpersonal or team disputes.
Support preventative HR practices to foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
Recruitment & Onboarding:
Support recruitment and selection processes including job postings, applicant screening, interviews, and offer letters. In collaboration with department managers.
Coordinate employee onboarding and orientation to ensure a smooth transition for new hires.
Policy Implementation & Compliance:
Ensure compliance with labor laws, regulations, and internal HR policies.
Contribute to the review and updating of HR policies and procedures.
Educate employees and managers on company policies, labor regulations, and workplace rights.
Performance & Disciplinary Management:
Support performance management processes including appraisals and performance improvement plans.
Assist with issuing warnings and conducting disciplinary meetings when necessary.
Monitor probation periods and conduct exit interviews for resigning employees.
HR Administration & Support:
Maintain and update employee records in HR systems and personnel files.
Assist with payroll, attendance, and leave management.
Generate HR reports and statistics as needed.

Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in human resource management, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or related field
2+ years of experience in an HR role with a focus on employee relations preferred
Certification in HR is advantageous
Experience handling disciplinary or grievance processes is desirable
Working Conditions:
Office-based with hours of work dedicated to both Ponoka and Wetaskiwin Offices.
Occasional travel or extended hours may be required during peak periods or in response to HR issues
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $35.71-$41.88 per hour
Expected hours: 21 per week
