Job Description

L'Arche Calgary is seeking a seasoned and values-driven Human Resources Coordinator to join our leadership team in a strategic and hands-on role. The Human Resources Coordinator will be responsible for shaping and sustaining HR practices and systems that reflect the mission and values of L'Arche, while fostering a supportive, inclusive, and mission-aligned community.

a proven record of excellence in human resources, and a deep understanding of community living and L'Arche's values and mission.

Required

Qualifications





Minimum 3 years of experience in Human Resources administration or equivalent HR qualification. Proven ability to handle complex interpersonal situations with compassion and professionalism. Knowledge of Alberta labour legislation, Occupational Health & Safety, and HR best practices. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook (advanced spreadsheet skills are required). Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. Friendly, team-oriented approach with a willingness to support cross-functional initiatives. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a leadership context and to exercise discretion and sound judgment. Clear police check, including vulnerable sector screening.

Major Duties and Responsibilities



Recruiting, screening, and hiring new personnel in accordance with regulatory requirements. Succession planning to ensure vacancies are filled quickly. Managing benefits enrollment, payroll, and LMIA-exempt work permit application processes Updating and maintaining personnel records. Advising and supporting the Leadership Team on policy review, development, and implementation. Maintaining up-to-date knowledge about current regulations that impact employment in Alberta, including the Employment Standards Code, Workers' Compensation, and Human Rights Legislation Developing and regularly reviewing onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure they are fit for purpose and aligned with L'Arche Calgary values. Collaborating with Assistant Coordinators, HR Managers, and HR Officers in other L'Arche Communities in Canada to share best practices. Nurturing the gifts and growth of all assistants through leading, implementing, and training managers in effective performance management processes Working with Team Leaders and the Leadership Team to devise and implement, and regularly review training pathways for all roles to ensure personnel are well-trained and supported. Collaborating with Assistant Coordinators/HR Coordinators in other L'Arche Communities in Canada to share best practices. Working with L'Arche Canada's Recruitment Coordinator and Human Resources Director as required, and to ensure best practice and adherence to L'Arche Canada policies and procedures. Keeping up to date on initiatives at the regional, national, and international levels of L'Arche and sharing this knowledge with the community. Modelling a learning culture by proactively seeking opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Ability to be flexible and manage the stress of multi-faceted responsibilities and supervision. Can remain calm and focused in times of uncertainty and crisis, and can give clear directions. Works collaboratively, models and promotes conflict resolution, and is appreciative of others' efforts. Is organized and able to set priorities and follow through on commitments in a timely fashion Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent administrative skills; organized and demonstrates time management skills.

Assets

Prior experience in a senior or leadership role is highly preferred. Deep familiarity with L'Arche's mission, values, and community life, experience in a L'Arche community (national or international) is highly preferred. Experience in the non-profit or social services sector. Familiarity with disability supports or community living models.

Work

Environment

This is a permanent, full-time position. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required. Will need to lead and participate in some meetings, both group and individual. Flexibility for hybrid work can be discussed. From time to time, the HR Coordinator will be required to be away to attend community, regional, or national events and/or trainings, which may include work on evenings and weekends.
