The Brantford Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, conscientious and motivated Human Resources Administration Assistant, to be responsible for providing confidential transactional HR support to CEO / Chief Librarian, Managers, Administration and Staff, in a public service environment.
The successful candidate will be part of the Finance and Administration team who work collaboratively to support the development and implementation of policy, recruitment, orientation and training, payroll, benefits, health and safety and other areas as directed. In addition to HR supports, the position will perform other administrative tasks such as minute taking, backup coverage for administrative duties, and file maintenance.
This position is available beginning January 5, 2026, for an estimated duration of 14 months, subject to change.

Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week, day shift
Qualifications:
College diploma in Human Resources Administration
CHRP designation or actively working towards the designation is considered an asset
4 years' relevant experience
Demonstrated and ongoing familiarity with current office technology
Demonstrated experience in a public sector environment
Responsibilities:
Human Resources:
Maintains official HR records and files including: personal information, performance management, pay equity, organizational charts, attendance management, training records, Collective Agreement, insurance claims, WSIB, etc.
Processes, verifies and maintains documentation relating to: timesheets, vacation information, attendance, compensation and benefits administration
Administers the BPL performance review program
Provides support and backup for staff scheduling
Prepares vacation schedules
Assists with OMERS administration including enrollment for qualifying employees, membership information changes, leave reporting, and retirements and terminations
Assists with health and dental benefits administration including enrollment, liaising with employees and benefits provider, employee maintenance and retired employee recoveries
Assists staff with inquiries about HR policies and information
Supports accommodation and return to work processes
Participates in the recruitment and hiring process, including onboarding and orientation
Maintains Collective Agreement updates resulting from contract negotiations
Responsible for tracking and reporting the progress and completion of staff training
Administers the timelines for meeting Human Resources-related legislated accessibility requirements
Assists with reviewing and updating procedures and policies relating to HR and Health and Safety
Provides data for completing workforce and other human resources surveys
Plans and oversees library functions: Staff Development Day, staff service awards, holiday functions for Library Board and employees
Administration and Finance Support:
Transcribes minutes for meetings (as assigned): Health & Safety, Labour Management, Committee
Provides support and backup for other administrative functions as required (payroll, cash counting, etc.)
Reviews, checks, reconciles and processes designated invoices to ensure correct payment to vendors, government receivers and staff
Prepares bank deposits and transfers to ensure funds for USD payments
Prepares reports as directed
Maintains relevant files
Other duties consistent with job responsibilities
A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check is required as a condition of employment.
Testing may be part of the interview process.
