This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to elevate their Human Resources career while gaining exposure to the franchise business and fitness industry. We are a fast-paced, rapidly growing, private equity-backed franchisee of the Planet Fitness brand, with over 130 locations across the U.S. and Canada—and counting. We are seeking a dynamic Human Resources Generalist, Canada (HRG, CAN) to support our Canadian operations. his role is integral to supporting the evolving needs of our organization by providing practical, hands-on HR support across all areas of the employee lifecycle.


Why We Need You:




The HRG, CAN will be a key member of the Human Capital team and will partner with Canadian Field and Operations leaders and the Corporate office to provide comprehensive day-to-day Human Resources support. This role spans a wide range of responsibilities, including employee relations, compliance, performance management, onboarding, training coordination, health and safety, and administration of leaves and benefits programmes—balancing strategic guidance with hands-on execution across all Canadian locations.

What You Will Do:




Serve as a trusted partner to operational leaders and team members by providing coaching, counseling, and practical day-to-day guidance on employee relations, performance management, disciplinary actions, career development, organizational challenges, and leaves/accommodations. Understand and ensure HR processes and programmes are implemented in compliance with policies and according to provincial requirements to align with corporate direction. Collaborate with managers and leadership to coordinate recruitment, organize onboarding, and ensure consistency with Human Resources best practices Serve as the main point of contact for employee HR inquiries across assigned regions, providing information and support on HR procedures. Travel to assigned clubs to assess team culture, performance, and compliance. Provide detailed visit summaries with actionable recommendations to HR and Operational leadership. Help build a "Career Destination" culture by supporting career pathing, engagement programs, and recognition strategies aligned with IGNITE values. Ensure adherence to federal and provincial labour laws, health and safety protocols, wage regulations, and leave/benefit practices. Partner with legal counsel , as needed, to maintain compliant policies and procedures. Actively monitor and implement evolving employment law standards across provinces. Lead and resolve employee relations matters, including investigations related to harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other workplace concerns. Monitor outcomes and recommend corrective action where needed. Collaborate with District Managers and General Managers on recruitment strategy and team member selection. Provide input on internal promotions, and succession planning. Assist with the annual performance management cycle and support the execution of performance expectations across the field. Partner with other HC team members on organizational strategy, analyzing key people metrics (e.g., turnover, retention, eNPS) and helping to develop solutions to improve team member experience and outcomes. Introduce innovative HR practices based on emerging trends, legal updates, and benchmarking research. Support the evolution of a consistent and scalable HR philosophy. Support and help implement Diversity & Inclusion programs that contribute to a more inclusive workplace culture. Serve as the HR subject matter expert and point of contact for business unit leaders across regions. Reinforce company policies and procedures, offering strategic and tactical guidance as needed. Support the communication and execution of company-wide initiatives, programs, and HR projects. Collaborate with IGNITE's Human Capital team to ensure consistent application of HR polices, practices, and to share relevant operational updates. Support return-to-work, leaves, and accommodation management programs in line with Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) and WorkSafeBC/WorkSafe Saskatchewan/Alberta WCB requirements. Administer and interpret employment agreements, manage grievances, and support labour relations processes Advise on and coordinate, and deliver training for managers and employees regarding provincial employment law, respectful workplace practices, and safety obligations Champion IGNITE Fitness' core values (T.E.A.M. - Team #1, Excellence, Accountability, Member Centric) in all decision-making and interactions.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other employees at all levels across various departments.


Travel:

Regular travel to various club locations throughout the Canada with occasional travel to the US as needed (valid passport required and driver's license required). Overnight trips may be necessary when traveling outside of the local area.

What You Have Done:




Minimum of 5 years of progressive Human Resources experience, with proven knowledge across core HR functions including performance management, leadership development, talent planning, compensation and benefits, succession planning, and organizational development. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field from a four-year accredited college or university. Human resources experience in British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of Canadian employment legislation, with a focus on British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and other applicable provinces if needed. Experience providing strategic HR support to a multi-unit retail or field-based business, with a focus on retention, engagement, and leadership alignment. Demonstrated ability to build high-performing, values-driven cultures that inspire team members to excel and grow. Experience supporting a remote and geographically dispersed workforce, including virtual coaching and engagement strategies. HR certification (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent) preferred. Willingness and ability to travel frequently within our Canadian territory and occasionally to the U.S.
