Position: Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager
Overview:
The HSE Manager will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of all Health, Safety, and Environmental initiatives across the organization. This role is responsible for managing HSE systems, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, and upholding high standards of health and safety performance across all business units. The HSE Manager will also oversee the Quality Management System (QMS), maintain COR and ISO certifications, support audits, and drive corrective actions to ensure continuous improvement in safety culture and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead, mentor, and support the HSE team, ensuring alignment with corporate HSE strategies.
Foster a collaborative and accountable team environment that emphasizes professional growth and continuous improvement.
Develop, implement, and maintain an integrated HSE Management System aligned with organizational goals and industry best practices.
Translate strategic HSE objectives into actionable site-level initiatives.
Create and implement company-wide policies, processes, and programs to achieve excellence in health, safety, and environmental performance.
Manage the Quality Management System (QMS) and ensure its alignment with ISO standards and integration with HSE programs.
Advise senior leadership on all HSE matters to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
Conduct and manage internal audits to ensure compliance with OHSA, ISO 14001, COR certification, and other relevant standards.
Support internal and external audit processes, including the timely execution of corrective actions.
Continually evaluate and enhance COR and ISO practices across all divisions.
Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Lead the development and oversight of HSE programs, including hazard assessments, risk mitigation, and incident investigations.
Collaborate with project teams to embed HSE considerations into all phases of planning and execution.
Analyze HSE performance data and develop proactive strategies to improve safety outcomes.
Oversee HSE training programs to ensure all employees and subcontractors are properly equipped with knowledge on emergency procedures, hazard identification, and PPE usage.
Introduce innovative approaches to improve safety performance and build a strong safety culture.
Ensure HSE staff have the tools, training, and resources needed to be successful in their roles.
Monitor trends, track performance metrics, and drive continuous improvement across HSE initiatives.
Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance oversight to the HSE team.
Maintain alignment and communication between HSE and operational teams across all divisions.
Champion a safety-first culture through leadership, accountability, and employee engagement.
Work closely with divisional leadership to ensure HSE priorities are reflected in project plans and operations.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation on audits, compliance, incidents, and performance data.
Present regular updates and reports on HSE performance, trends, and KPIs to executive leadership.
Implement systems to track leading and lagging indicators across the organization.
Follow all company policies and perform additional responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
Minimum 7 years of progressive HSE management experience, including 3+ years in the construction industry.
Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation is strongly preferred.
Experience managing or overseeing a Quality Management System (QMS), particularly as it relates to HSE integration.
Strong knowledge of Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), WSIB processes, COR certification, and ISO 14001 standards.
National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification is considered an asset.
Extensive knowledge of provincial and federal HSE legislation and construction safety practices.
Proven leadership capabilities with experience mentoring high-performing teams.
Strong background in incident reporting, risk assessments, hazard mitigation, and audit management.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex information.
Proficiency with HSE software and the Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to safety management.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $100,000.00-$130,000.00 per year
