What does this role look like?

Purpose
The primary purpose of this job is to represent the HR Operations Team as a subject matter expert, providing specialized knowledge and guidance related to HR administration and payroll processes. This role is responsible for supporting and advising on changes to both processes and systems resulting from ongoing process improvements, legislation updates, modifications to collective agreements, changes in tax regulations and other related developments.
Accountability
As a key member of the HR Operations team, this job will utilize subject matter expertise in payroll systems, policies and practices to support complete, timely and accurate execution of PeopleSoft system changes.
This role is responsible for non-routine payroll issues, including system upgrades, testing of new functionality, and process changes driven by legislative or collective agreement updates. It also provides support for accounting and general ledger reconciliation support.

Major responsibilities
Support, create and co-ordinate functional testing for the implementation of all payroll system and process changes, such as PeopleSoft tax updates and salary table adjustments.
Collaborate with HR Business Analysts to develop and implement new solutions that enhance and optimize administrative processes.
Liaise with other departments within Human Resources and Finance to coordinate payroll system and process changes, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and that risks are identified and mitigated.
Identifies how payroll system changes and legislative changes impact current processes and co-ordinate the review and implementation of new and revised processes to meet evolving business requirements.
Organize and facilitate various meetings, including root cause analysis, process reviews, process development workshops and training sessions.
Perform other related responsibilities as assigned to support the overall purpose and accountabilities of the role.
What are we looking for?

Education and Experience
Two-year Certificate in a related discipline.
Successful completion of Canadian Payroll Association certification is a requirement.
Minimum 4 years' payroll/HRMS experience in a large, multi-union complex organization.
Exceptional understanding of payroll processes and the integration of other functional areas including Human Resources and Finance.
Thorough knowledge of payroll related legislations.
HRMS systems background, preferably PeopleSoft, would be an asset.
An equivalent combination of directly related education and directly related experience may be considered.
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies
Technical Competence: Knowledge of Microsoft software applications and familiarity with functionality and operations of PeopleSoft or other full service HRMS technologies.
Analytical Competence: Strength in data analysis with attention to detail, statistical or quantitate methods. Strong problem solving and systematic thinking skills.
Effective cross-functional teamwork: Ability to achieve progress and results related to strategic initiatives and continuous improvement.
Time Management: Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team orientated work setting of high volume workloads with multiple, tight and demanding timelines.
Professional Currency: Stays up to date in field and is able to apply innovative solutions as appropriate.
