DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees the day-to-day management of the human resources function including employment agreements, disciplinary/corrective action documents, termination letters, dealing with grievances and arbitration and employment regulatory matters, etc.
Partners with plant management teams and corporate human resources to provide guidance in resource planning and organizational development to foster and maintain a positive and productive work environment.
Develops, recommends, implements and maintains policies and programs for the human resource function at the plant level to foster understanding of and improvement in management, supervisory or employee relations that adhere to corporate policies and applicable provincial legislation.
Guide leaders and employees with respect to Company policies, Values, HR programs administration and interpretation to ensure HR matters are handled consistently and in a timely manner.
Partners with the Talent Acquisition and local management teams in the selection process positioning Burnbrae Farms as "Employer of Choice" including consulting on postings, conducting/scheduling interviews, presenting comprehensive employment offers/agreements.
Partners with Health & Safety and management team on return to work plans for both occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses.
Ensures new employee on-boarding is effective by ensuring day 1 on-boarding is relevant and supporting the local management team in ongoing review/assessment to determine if employee is suitable for ongoing employment.
Supports performance management systems, plans and practices and consults with management on employee performance evaluations. Ensures all salaried employees have SMART objectives tied to the annual operating plans.
Oversees labour relations function at the plant (if applicable) by interpreting and assisting with the administration of the collective labour agreement, overseeing and resolving grievances and preparing and participating in arbitration and collective bargaining activities.
Ensures employee retention at the facility is maintained at an acceptable level. Uses knowledge, experience, and continuous interpretation of facility dynamics to help understand and identify the training and development needs of the employees.
Oversees and manages local succession planning and performance management to ensure a high-performance work culture.
Serves as link and counsels management and employees by handling questions, interpreting and administering policies and programs striving to resolve work-related issues at the local plant level.
Prepares and reviews documentation with management to support disciplinary and corrective action procedures; counsels/supports management in disciplinary action.
Deals with all employee terminations at the plant level (voluntary and involuntary) including but not limited to termination meetings or exit interviews.
Leads employee engagement programs and activities at the plant level
Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement through streamlining of processes to improve efficiency and enhance customer service to stakeholders within the organization.
Guides leaders through change management initiatives to deliver and meet business needs
Leads and promotes ESG/CSR initiatives, including DEI and external audits
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work effectively in a high volume and fast paced work environment
Ability to effectively manage multiple projects with overlapping tasks and work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service to all stake holders
Must be a confident communicator and must be able to effectively present to all levels of the organization
Must be able to regularly travel between home location (Strathroy) and Kitchener plant. Occasional travel within Ontario is also required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor Degree in H.R. Management or equivalent.
CHRP designation preferred.
5-7 years of progressive Human Resources generalist experience in a manufacturing environment
Preference given to candidates with 3+ years of human resource management experience in a unionized environment.
