Job Description

This diversified Halifax-based group of companies, engaged internationally in aerospace, aviation, airline and commercial industries offers a challenging opporutnity for a Human Resources Coordinator at its facility in Amherst, Nova Scotia.

Reporting to the Vice President and General Manager at its Amherst Facility and assisting the Human Resources Team in Halifax, the role of Human Resources Coordinator will be to help provide high quality, professional support in managing the day-to-day operations of IMP Aerstructures' Human Resource office in a unionized work environment and in assistiong the HAlifax Human Resource Team members with in-house relations, recruitment, and staffing logistics, communication, performance, organization and training development, compensation and benefits adminstration, and timekeeping.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide high quality, professional support in assisting in the day-to-day operations of Human Resources in a unionized work environment, while acting as a point of contact for Management and personnel regarding all HR and Timekeeping (i.e. pay-related changes, daily timekeeping data);
  • Maintain confidential, accurate and current personnel files and information in addition to taking accurate, detailed meeting notes and ensure that all communication;
  • Assist with the implementation of employee-focused Company programs such as Employee Engagement Survey, Performance Review Process, Attendance Management Program;
  • Ensure applicable parties are following current HR procedure/policies in dealing with personnel (i.e. probationary review, performance management, leave of absences, etc.);
  • Initiate appropriate recruitment activities in response to approved vacancies (i.e. lay-off, bumping);
  • Seek assistance from HR Team, provide coaching and/or guidance to Management and employees regarding basic employee/labour relations, performance management, conflict resolution, attendance management;
  • Seek assistance from HR Team, provide coaching and/or guidance regarding the interpretation of applicable legislation, collective agreement, etc., human resources programs and policies, employee relations matters, employee performance, timekeeping, Corporate policies programs, etc.;
  • Assist Management with initial conflict resolution/mediation of conflicts and Step 1 of the grievance process;
  • Liaise with the Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) and IMP's 3rd-party Benefit Adjudicators in the administration of Company's Disability Management Program (i.e. Return-to-work Program, EI Sick and Accident or Salary Continuance);
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management (undergraduate degree/diploma with concentration in HR);
  • Experience working in a unionized environment within a Human Resources capacity/role would be considered an asset;
  • Solid understanding of recruitment and selection techniques and tools;
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Human Resources practices and principles including the Nova Scotia Labour Code, Human Rights and Employment Equity legislation.;
  • Attention to detail, while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality and the ability to take initiative and follow through with projects and meet deadlines;
  • Experience with conflict resolution or sensitive/difficult issues and the ability to address complaints and problems quickly and effectively while promoting a fair outcome by remaining objective;
  • Must be an effective team player, have the ability to build trusting working relationships with members of the HR Team, Management and personnel through open and honest communication and follow-through commitments;
  • Strong planning, organizational skills, coupled with the ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines and the ability to effectively handle stressful situations and thrive in a fast-paced, diverse environment;
  • Working knowledge with Micro soft Office software particularly Word, Excel and Access;
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), U.S. International Traffic and Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Canadian Government Security Clearance.
