Housing Worker
to join our team in a
full-time permanent
.
The Housing Worker is responsible for providing housing support services to individuals and families with complex needs who are homeless and/or at risk of being homeless and assist them to find, maintain and stabilize their housing, and pursue further goals. The ideal candidate will have
a Community College diploma
or equivalent, preferably with a specialization
in Social Services or community-based studies
, along with
one to three years of related experience working with homeless and marginally housed individuals
. They should possess a strong understanding of the housing challenges faced by marginalized and homeless populations, as well as knowledge of resources available within the housing service sector. Experience working with low-income, multi-racial, and multi-lingual newcomer communities is essential, alongside a commitment to an integrated anti-oppression and LGBTQ+ positive framework. The candidate must be proficient in the use of computers including word and data processing, designing flyers and presentation. Superior oral and written communication skills in a second language relevant to the community are considered an asset.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide housing help services including housing access, eviction prevention and housing stabilization services in a case management model
Provide counseling, information and assistance to people looking for housing, and requesting assistance with their subsidized housing application, eviction and other housing-related issues
Assist clients with accessing income support programs including the Housing Stabilization Fund
Ensure program guidelines are followed in order to achieve successful outcomes
Assist clients to understand their rights and responsibilities as a tenant
Provide advocacy, conflict resolution/ mediation with landlords as necessary
Provide information sessions on tenants' rights and responsibilities
Make referrals to other community resources as determined by the client and support the links
Contribute to the landlord registry
Builds partnerships with landlords and service providers
Provides housing help services from off-site locations
Inputs data into appropriate data base as specified by the agency
Maintains required program records and submits required weekly and monthly reports and as requested by the management of the agency
Ensures that all records are kept confidential and secure
Actively participates in program's community development activities including advocacy, outreach and community engagement and empowerment activities
Participates in networks of neighbourhood based service providers
Nurtures community members for leadership
Participates in and supports local community events and TNO outreach activities
Screening
- As a condition of employment, the successful applicant must complete a Vulnerable Sector Screening.

Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 35 hours a week - Some evenings and weekends may be required.
