JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Settlement Manager, The Housing Support Coordinator will be responsible for managing housing placement services. The role includes coordinating with landlords, government agencies, local authorities, and non-governmental organizations to secure safe, temporary, or permanent housing for refugees. The coordinator will ensure that housing arrangements meet the specific needs of refugees, including considerations for families, individuals, and those with specific needs.

Hourly rate: $32.19

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the Settlement Manager, the Housing Support Coordinator will:
Identify and secure housing options for refugees in line with program requirements, including temporary accommodation, long-term rentals, or host family placements.
Coordinate with local landlords, housing providers, and accommodation facilities to identify available housing options.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local housing laws, availability, and pricing in the area to support refugee needs.
Conduct intake assessments of refugees to understand housing needs, preferences, and eligibility.
Provide ongoing support to refugees throughout the placement process, ensuring they feel supported in their transition to new housing.
Build and maintain relationships with landlords, housing authorities, and other stakeholders in the refugee support community to expand available housing options.
Collaborate with community organizations, and other agencies to ensure comprehensive housing and integration services for refugees.
Maintain detailed records of housing placements, client interactions, and outcomes in compliance with organizational and legal requirements.
Prepare regular reports on housing placement progress, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS
Post-secondary education in social services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum 2 years of experience working in a social service setting.
Experience providing one-on-one support to clients.
Knowledge of services and resources available to assist newcomers in Ottawa.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution.
Experience in facilitating workshops and group sessions.
Ability to deal with confidential materials and matters.
Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
Works well in a multidisciplinary, culturally diverse workplace.
Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite.
Fluency in English is
required
. Fluency in other languages is an asset.
