HOUSING STABILITY WORKER



INTERIM HOUSING ASSISTANCE PROGRAM ( IHAP)



LUSO Community Services is a neighbourhood resource centre dedicated to fostering inclusiveness and well being through the delivery of compassionate, responsive programs and services for individuals experiencing adversity.



We provide programs and services in the London community for children, youth, families, and seniors of culturally diverse and ethnic backgrounds.



POSITION SUMMARY:

The Housing Stability Worker supports asylum seekers and refugees at risk of or experiencing homelessness in obtaining and maintaining safe, affordable and stable housing. This role involves providing client-centered case management, housing navigation, landlord mediation, and connections to community resources to help clients achieve long-term housing stability. The Housing Stability Worker will coordinate with existing networks and coordinated access systems.

The Housing Stability Worker will work closely with other LUSO team members providing support to asylum seekers and refugees to ensure a coordinated, collaborative and holistic approach to service delivery.

REPORTING:

The Housing Stability Worker will be an employee of LUSO Community Services. Day-to-day supervision/consultation will be provided by LUSO's Director of Settlement Services.

POSITION DETAILS:

This is a full-time position, 37.5 hours per week; Monday to Friday 9:00-5:00pm. Some evenings will be required. Services are provided in-person, this is not a virtual or hybrid position.

Successful candidate must be able to start December 1st, 2025



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:



Client Intake & Assessment:

Conduct housing needs assessments to understand clients' housing needs, barriers, and life situations

Case Management:

Develop and implement personalized housing stability plans, setting short-term and long-term goals for clients and tracking progress.

Housing Support:

Assist clients with searching for and securing stable housing; this may include helping with housing applications, identifying appropriate housing options, and facilitating landlord communications. This may also include accompanying clients to scheduled viewings/appointments as necessary, and provide emotional support, reassurance and encouragement throughout the process

Eviction Prevention:

Provide eviction prevention services, including mediation with landlords and helping clients develop financial plans to avoid eviction.

Referrals & Resources:

Connect clients with community resources, such as food, employment, financial assistance, settlement services, mental health services, addiction counseling, and legal aid.

Crisis Intervention:

Respond to housing crises, including offering support for emergency housing needs and facilitating access to shelter if necessary.

Life Skills & Tenancy Education:

Provide training on topics such as budgeting, tenant rights and responsibilities, and maintaining a healthy living environment to ensure long-term housing retention.

Follow-up & Monitoring:

Conduct follow-up visits or check-ins to ensure housing stability and provide ongoing support to prevent housing insecurity

Documentation & Reporting:

Maintain detailed, accurate case notes and reports on client progress and outcomes in accordance with agency and funding requirements. Prepare monthly and quarterly reports

Collaboration:

Work closely with other service providers, community organizations, and housing authorities to ensure clients' needs are met holistically.

Advocacy:

Advocate for clients within the housing system to remove barriers to housing access and stability, and ensure their rights are upheld.

QUALIFICATIONS:



Education:

Post secondary education in Social Work, Sociology, Social Services, Psychology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience in housing, social services, or case management.

Experience:

At least 1-3 years of experience in housing services, homelessness prevention, case management, or social services.

Knowledge of Local Housing Market:

Familiarity with local housing laws, landlord-tenant relations, and community-based housing resources. Knowledge of housing resources, eviction prevention strategies and tenant rights

Experience with Specific Populations:

Experience working with asylum seekers and refugees, including knowledge of Asylum and refugee claimant processes in Canada

Communication Skills:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write detailed reports and case notes.

Organizational Skills:

Ability to manage a caseload of clients, work under pressure, and meet deadlines effectively.

Compassionate & Non-judgmental:

Ability to build rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds and assist them with empathy and understanding. Strong understanding of cross-cultural communication, trauma-informed care, and anti-oppressive practices. Strong crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills Motivated, self-starter and ability to work in a fast-paced environment Capacity to build relationships with community members, and other professionals Flexibility and ability to work some evenings and/or weekends if required to meet position outcomes Proficiency in case management software and Microsoft Office Suite

Ability to communicate in a second language an asset in particular: Spanish,

Valid Driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle required

Must obtain a Vulnerable Person's Police Screening- before commencing employment


Wages: $27.00-$27.70 per hour
