Program Overview \xe2\x80\x93 Housing Operations East - Housing & Homelessness Services
The Housing & Homelessness Services Unit\xe2\x80\x99s primary goal is to help street involved people and/or those with low income to find and maintain appropriate housing and work within an eviction prevention model.   • Property Management Responsibilities:
  • Administrate RGI for all tenants, including annual income reviews and required notifications and/or RGI calculations.
  • Facilitate intake management; background checks, generate leases, and orientation.
  • Collect rent, establish payment schedules to manage any arrears, and follow up LTB Notices.
  • Work with building services to ensure units/building facilities are maintained in good repair.
  • Educate tenants about basic and preventative maintenance issues, and their responsibilities in maintaining their apartment as per signed tenancy/occupancy agreement.
  • Housing Administration & Tenant Relations Responsibilities:
  • Conduct assessments and assist tenants in identifying any issues, problem areas, and relevant needs within their housing community and facilitate problem resolution to address issues.
  • Facilitate, support, and encourage engagement of tenants in the ongoing management of their building and participation in tenant community.
  • Provide tenants with necessary housing information, including their rights and responsibilities.
  • Facilitate tenants\xe2\x80\x99 participation to develop community standards/policies, resolve conflicts, mediate grievances, and develop forums to address issues.
  • Provide remedial support and access to resources and referrals for residents managing situational and/or ongoing inter/intrapersonal concerns.
  • Intervene in crisis/conflict situations and mediate disputes as it pertains to their tenancy.
  • Work with tenants through issues that impact security of housing.
  • Identify and address barriers to tenants maintaining their tenancy.
  • Work from an eviction prevention model to support tenants to maintain housing through regular follow up, case conference meetings, and liaising pertinent supports to tenants.
  • Monitor and review tenant needs and issues and communicate the information to the Manager.
  • Act as a service broker, a mediator, and a link with other agencies to support tenants.
  • Community Development Programming:
  • Develop Community Building programs to engage residents, encourage social interaction and inclusivity, and to support empowerment and self-sufficiency.
  • Assess social recreational needs of tenants.
  • Work with a team to plan and deliver community programs.
What You Bring to the Team
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Social Services, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in social services with supporting individuals who have history of street involvement and/or individuals with low income.
  • Understanding of the Residential Tenancies Act, the Housing Services Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
  • Property management experience including lease administration, rent collection, and unit turnover management.
  • Experience with group facilitation and an understanding of group dynamics.

  • Knowledge and experience working with women who have experienced violence, addictions, abuse and/or homelessness.
  • Knowledge of issues faced by newcomers to Canada.
  • Knowledge of client centered, feminist, and anti-oppressive frame works.
  • Experience in conflict resolution, crisis response, intervention, de-escalation, advocacy, and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources to support low-income individuals, individuals with a history of mental health or addictions, and individuals with a history of trauma.
  • Demonstrate cultural competency with ability to communicate clearly with individuals from diverse ethno-cultural backgrounds and levels of abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and individually, to multi-task, organize, and prioritize efficiently.
  • Strong interview, assessment, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work independently and in cooperation with others
