Position Summary:







Wasauksing First Nation is accepting applications for a Housing Maintenance Worker. The Housing Maintenance Worker is a full-time, permanent position. The housing maintenance worker will support the ongoing maintenance and repair of CMHC and Band-owned rental housing. Reporting to the Housing Supervisor, the Housing Maintenance Worker plays a critical role in ensuring that community housing units are safe, functional, and well-maintained. This position contributes to the health, safety, and well-being of tenants while upholding the standards and values of Wasauksing First Nation.




Job Duties & Responsibilities:




Perform general repairs and maintenance on CMHC and Band-owned housing units, including carpentry, plumbing, painting, drywall, flooring, and minor electrical work. Conduct routine and preventative maintenance to extend the lifespan of housing infrastructure and minimize costly emergency repairs. Respond to and complete emergency maintenance requests in a timely, professional, and safe manner. Ensure all maintenance tasks comply with current building codes, health and safety regulations, and WFN policies. Conduct seasonal inspections (e.g., winterizing, smoke alarm checks, weatherproofing) and routine safety checks. Maintain an organized inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies; ensure availability and security of materials. Assist with housing inspections and assessments, documenting deficiencies and recommending repairs or upgrades. Collaborate with Public Works staff to log and update maintenance activities in the HMS (Housing Management System). Provide input in planning annual repair and renovation projects and support project scheduling. Ensure clean and safe work environments during and after all tasks; respect tenant property and privacy. Deliver high-quality workmanship with a focus on durability, safety, and tenant satisfaction. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Public Works. Performs emergency repairs as required, regardless of time or day. Adhere to all policies and procedures of Wasauksing First Nation and any other relevant policies and procedures from external agencies and partners.



Education & Experience:




Minimum 2 years of experience in residential maintenance, renovation, or construction trades. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in carpentry, basic plumbing, and general home repairs. Experience working with maintenance management systems and record-keeping is an asset. Skilled in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment. Capable of preparing cost estimates and sourcing materials as required. Excellent time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks effectively.



Other Requirements:




Ability to read and interpret maintenance work orders, construction drawings, and specifications. Strong computer literacy, including the use of email, mobile apps, or maintenance software. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team. Dependable, self-motivated, and proactive in identifying and resolving issues. Physically able to lift heavy materials and perform manual labor under varying conditions. Awareness of cultural sensitivity and respect for Wasauksing First Nation's community values. Knowledge of Ojibway language and culture is considered an asset. Must possess a valid "G" driver's license, own transportation is required. Willing to work flexible hours as required, including evenings and weekends. This position requires the individual to work with various families, youth and children. To protect children, youth and vulnerable persons, Wasauksing First Nation requires the individual to provide a vulnerable sector Or criminal record check.
