Our member First Nations are continually faced with the challenges of providing safe and adequate housing for their members. Currently, many First Nation communities face overcrowding issues and have long wait lists of clients needing housing. The housing shortage in First Nation communities is at a critical stage and needs to be addressed.

Nokiiwin Tribal Council requires one (1) experienced, knowledgeable, and motivated

Housing Inspector.

The role of Nokiiwin Tribal Council's Housing Inspector is to work directly with Nokiiwin member First Nations to assist them housing inspections required through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).

Key Responsibilities:



Conduct inspections for CMHC First Nation Housing Programs, including Section 95, the Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program (RRAP), Physical Condition Reporting (PCR), and Code Compliance Inspections, in accordance with the Ontario Building Code (OBC), National Building Code (NBC), and other applicable codes. Perform inspections on new housing projects at the five (5) required stages of construction. Review housing floor plans to ensure compliance with all relevant building code requirements. Maintain an organized and accurate file management system in accordance with Nokiiwin Tribal Council's Management standards and applicable funding agency requirements. Conduct inspections on existing housing renovations and prepare reports in accordance with applicable program and reporting guidelines. Maintain detailed records and provide evaluations and reports for First Nation clients.

Qualifications and Skills:



College Diploma in Civil Engineering, Architectural Technology/Technician, or a related field. Building Inspector certification or equivalent provincial/federal accreditation is considered an asset. 1-2 years of relevant experience. Training and/or working knowledge of the Ontario or National Building Code (OBC/NBC) Training may be provided for candidates who meet the educational requirements and wish to obtain Building Code qualifications through the Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA). Knowledge of Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) and Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) funding programs. Construction experience is considered an asset. Training and/or extensive knowledge of Building Science is considered an asset. Successful completion of the following Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH) Building Code Examinations: House 2012, General Legal/Process 2012, Plumbing - House 2012, HVAC - House 2012 Willingness to participate in additional Building Code training and challenge further MMAH examinations. Valid drivers license, reliable vehicle, up to date automobile insurance and a clear drivers abstract to be able to travel extensively and work within Nokiiwin communities. Fluency in Anishinaabemowin and knowledge or appreciation of Anishinaabek culture and heritage are assets. Successful completion of a Level 1 Police Criminal Reference Check.
