LOCATED IN KEESEEKOOWENIN FIRST NATION
West Region Child & Family Services is seeking a caring and nurturing individual or couple to be a House Parent in the Red Thunderbird Home, located in Keeseekoowenin. The purpose of the Red Thunderbird Home is to provide a structured and stable placement for young children and sibling groups who are in care of WRCFS. This home will provide a short term, but structured placement for these young children to transition into a longer term placement or a move back to biological parents' home. This facility will provide a continuity of daily living for the children and provide education, recreation, spiritual guidance, therapy as needed, and nurturance
DUTIES INCLUDE:
• Provide nurturing care and guidance to youth who may have complex behavioral and emotional needs
• Offer a supportive and understanding environment for youth who have been faced with trauma
• Provide care with compassion, patience, and empathy, understanding the unique needs and experiences of each youth
• Serve as a positive role model and advocate for the well-being of the youth in your care
• Complete and submit required service documentation, including daily logs and incident reports
• Utilize a relationship-based approach to deescalating and responding to emergencies as they arise
• Maintain timely and effective communication with the holistic circle of care to support the care of youth
• Other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS :
• Acceptable combination of education, training, and prior home/childcare experience (own lived or worked)
• Must be flexible, reliable, dependable and demonstrate sound work ethics
• Must have experience working with First Nations children and families and possess cultural awareness and sensitivity respecting cultural differences
• Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Must have the ability to make decisions, work independently with little supervision and work effectively with others in a team process
• Must have a valid driver's license and own reliable transportation (require all purpose insurance with a minimum of
• $2, 000,000 liability coverage) where transportation is required, must be willing to travel
• Must be able to provide written updates of client information
• Understand the purpose of the agency and be willing to carry out the agency's policies and programs
• Must be able to work flexible hours
• Ability to speak the Ojibway language would be a definite asset
• Genuine compassion for children and a desire to make a difference in their lives
• Patience, empathy, and a nurturing demeanor
• Willingness to undergo specialized training to respond to the unique needs of young people
The successful applicant must provide WRCFS with a current Criminal Record Check that includes a •Vulnerable• •Sector Search•, Child Abuse Registry Check, Prior contact check and Driver's Abstract prior to the commencement of position. Travel is required. A valid driver's license and access to means of reliable transportation for work is a condition of employment.
