About the Position:
The Host plays a vital role in delivering compassionate, respectful, and seamless hospitality services during funeral receptions. This position supports grieving families and guests by creating a welcoming environment, managing food and beverage service, and ensuring the reception space is clean, organized, and comforting. Working closely with Funeral Directors and other team members, the Host helps uphold the dignity of the service while attending to the practical and emotional needs of attendees. The scope of the role includes preparing and maintaining the reception area, serving refreshments, assisting families with post-event needs, and performing thorough cleanup and reset procedures. The Host must demonstrate empathy, discretion, and professionalism at all times, contributing to a supportive atmosphere that honors the significance of the occasion. Flexibility, attention to detail, and a commitment to service excellence are essential to success in this role.
The successful candidate will be required to:
Family Reception and Guest Experience
Partner with Funeral Directors to provide a warm, respectful, and supportive environment for families and guests during receptions.
Prepare the reception space by arranging seating to accommodate guests comfortably, setting out dishware and utensils, and playing soft background music to foster a calming atmosphere.
Greet guests upon arrival, offer assistance as needed, and remain attentive to family members throughout the event to ensure their comfort.
At the conclusion of the reception, assist families with packaging leftover food and offer help transporting items to their vehicles in a courteous and respectful manner.
Food and Beverage Service and Maintenance
Serve food and beverages to guests in a courteous and professional manner, ensuring compliance with food safety standards and maintaining a clean presentation.
Monitor and replenish refreshments, including water, coffee, tea, and condiments, to ensure consistent availability throughout the event.
Maintain cleanliness and order in the reception and servery areas by promptly clearing used dishes, replacing empty trays, and managing waste bins.
Restock supplies such as napkins, utensils, and beverage containers to ensure smooth service flow.
Event Setup, Coordination, and Cleanup
Follow established procedures for opening and closing the reception space, including setting up furniture, checking equipment, and ensuring all supplies are in place.
Provide ongoing support to guests and team members during the event, responding to needs and requests with professionalism and empathy.
Perform thorough post-event cleaning, including disinfecting surfaces, vacuuming, mopping floors, and managing waste disposal in accordance with health and safety standards.
Ensure the reception area is reset and ready for future use, maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and organization.

Additional duties as assigned that fall within the scope of the role as assigned by the Assistant Manager/Manager, Funeral Services.
Qualifications:
Possesses a valid Food Handler Certificate (If not, certification will be provided by the employer and required as a condition of employment)
Previous experience working in a banquet hall, convention centre, catering company is an asset
Capable of lifting and carrying items such as trays of glassware, food, coffee carafes, and other service-related materials.
Demonstrates sensitivity and empathy towards individuals in bereavement, with an understanding of diverse cultural and religious customs and expectations.
Strong team player with a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a commitment to collaboration.
Enjoys interacting with people and strives to create positive connections with customers.
