As a Horticulture student with Calgary Transit, you will build lasting relationships with industry leaders, and contribute to work that will build and strengthen your skill sets. Primary duties include:


  • Conduct site visits to all Calgary Transit locations to review and record existing assets.

  • Compile an Evaluation report of existing assets and provide recommendations for improvements to foliage, irrigation, and mowing practices.

  • Work closely with Urban Forestry to coordinate the removal and planting of 200-300 trees in the 2023 season.

  • Work with contractor for quality control.





Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a second-year diploma or degree program that includes arbourist, landscape, horticulture, ect.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

  • A valid Class 5 Driver\'s Licence (or provincial equivalent) with no more than six demerits.

  • Success in this position requires excellent organizational and communication skills; a high degree of customer focus; strong
    research and problem-solving skills and focus on attention to detail; and the ability to work well both
    independently and in a team.

Pre-Employment Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in school on a full-time basis with the intent to return to school full-time in the Fall of 2023.
  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator\'s permit.

  • A security clearance will be conducted.

  • If invited to an interview, you will be asked to provide an unofficial transcript or an enrollment verification letter (indicating the program and year you are currently completing).





Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

Compensation: $26.63 per hour

Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
