Job Description


We are seeking a Communications Manager to work closely with our leadership team by creating and distributing social media and communications content. An ideal candidate has experience in media relations, and can work well in a fast-paced environment. The Communications Manager will be required to produce high quality content, meet deadlines and adhere to our organization\'s bylaws and procedures. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the development and implementation of brand building.
  • Maintain the content of the UWSA website and social media channels.
  • Formulate effective marketing strategies to promote UWSA events, activities and initiatives to students, the University of Windsor community, and the broader Windsor-Essex community.
  • Ensure that student and campus events, activities, and initiatives are publicized on the UWSA website and on-line media sources, as needed.
  • Draft and publish all graphic materials and press releases including but not limited to posters, banners, digital content and media materials.
  • Work with the UWSA Executives to improve the quality of communications between the UWSA and the Student Membership.
  • Research market prices for advertisers.
  • Maintain the UWSA communications manual, branding package, templates, designs, etc.
  • Recruit, hire, train and schedule Ignite students and volunteers for the Communications Department.
  • Responsible for designing and publishing \xe2\x80\x9cThe Campus Compass\xe2\x80\x9d the full-time undergraduates\xe2\x80\x99 journal which includes securing sufficient number of advertisements.
  • Act as the Editor in Chief for the Lance Community News Paper and be responsible for:
  • Recruit independent journalists and volunteer writers.
  • Edit contents submitted by independent journalists and volunteer writers according to journalistic standards & ethics and Lance policies.
  • Approve and submit to the Accounts department, payments to independent journalists and 3rd parties
  • Secure advertisers and sponsors for the Lance
  • Provide supplementary support to the UWSA Executive Team.
  • Fulfill any other duties as assigned.
ACCOUNTABILITES
  • Maintain the content of the UWSA website and social media channels.
  • Serve on any committees as it relates to the position, upon request or by virtue of the position.
  • Continuous publication of Lance the Community Newspaper.
  • Ensure Campus Compass is ready for delivery every year by the end of August.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Communications Department yearly budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Ensure all deadlines are met
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • A post-secondary degree in journalism, communications, marketing or public relations.
  • Mastery of social media and understanding of the types of creative content and strategies that perform well on various social platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, Youtube).
  • Exceptional writing, verbal and editing skills.
  • Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop or similar program is required.
  • Proficiency with WordPress or similar website software is required
