The Home Support Worker is accountable for: Client Relations, General Housekeeping, Household Support, Safety and Security, and Document and Reporting. This position requires physical endurance and entails interaction with seniors and differently abled individuals within their own homes.
Key Accountabilities:
Client Relations
Establish client priorities and expectations for each visit.
Maintain appropriate professional, yet personable, relationships with clients.
Interact with clients following organizational standards and policy.
Be mindful of client wellbeing.
General Housekeeping
Carry out general housekeeping duties as per the position contract and organization policies and procedures.
Follow standard sanitization and infection control practices.
Complete routine cleaning requirements for each room type (kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, living room, front entrance) as per client preferences.
Follow the client and worker contract and provide only the services agreed upon or allowed within FCSS guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Complete required tasks in allotted time.
Perform routine hygiene and infection control practices (e.g. light switches, doorknobs, handrails are wiped down with appropriate sanitizer).
Household Support
Complete errands, such as grocery shopping or gathering mail, as per client preferences, and within organizational policies, procedures and guidelines.
Carry out meal assistance as required, suitable to the client's needs (such as dietary restrictions).
Prepare and store food in a sanitary manner.
Safety and Security
Maintain a safe environment for clients and yourself while performing Home Support duties.
Always wear FCSS Identification while on shift.
Ensure that clients who will not be present at time of services have signed the appropriate documentation.
Ensure work attire is neat and tidy and meets organizational requirements.
Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required.
Home Safety documentation has been completed prior to Home Support Worker entry to client homes and safe visit plans are followed.
Home Support staff are expected to be trained on, and complete, Home Safety Falls Assessments.
Keep work areas free of obstructions and hazards (cords, cleaning products, etc. while on duty and client present)
Adhere to provincial Health and Safety standards.
Recognize safety risks and implement appropriate safety measures.
Documentation and Reporting
Report unscheduled client absences.
Report all accidents, injuries, and near misses of yourself or clients, using the correct forms.
Complete and submit timesheets and mileage sheets in accordance with payroll schedules.
Ensures items required for personnel file are submitted and maintained (driver's license, proof of vehicle insurance, emergency contact information, etc.)
Required documentation shall be completed at client homes as required.
Collaboration and Communication
Ensures effective and efficient use of resources while ensuring personnel, agency, and client security, integrity and confidentiality are maintained.
Adheres to office policies and procedures and staff code of conduct and ethics.
Collaborate with Program Coordinator or designate to determine client schedules and maintain ongoing communication regarding same.
Ongoing Education, Training and Position Evaluations
Familiarize themselves with Ponoka FCSS policies and procedures and keep up to date with changes.
Complete a self-evaluation on an annual basis as part of performance reviews.
First Aid and CPR may be required on an ongoing basis.
Complete any training as asked by your supervisor. This training may include Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Prevention training, Infection Prevention and Control practices and procedures, etc.
Qualifications:
Education, Experience and Knowledge
High School Diploma
Previous experience with general cleaning or household management is ideal but not required.

Well organized, responsible, creative, flexible, able to multitask, highly motivated, and attentive to detail.
Possesses time management and interpersonal skills allowing the ability effectively plan home support hours and communicate with clients, co-workers, and supervisors.

Shift Information:
Hours will vary based on client need.
Home Support working hours will be completed between the hours of 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, excluding Statutory Holidays.
This position is casual with the opportunity to grow into a part time position.

Pay: $19.57-$26.36 per hour
Expected hours: 5 - 20 per week
