About the Opportunity

This is a fixed-term, project-based opportunity with field work required throughout various locations in Alberta. Reporting to the respective project's lead, the Home Energy Assessor will perform comprehensive condition assessments on mixed types of residential properties for the purpose of identifying and reporting on deficiencies and opportunities for energy savings. This role will work alongside a second assessor on-site, and remotely with a larger office-based team.

Using a customized data collection tool, you will perform home energy assessments according to Community Power's standards and generate energy models of each home to quantify baseline energy use and savings potential through measures predefined by the project scope. Home assessment and energy modeling results will be used by the customer to inform decisions about greenhouse gas reduction and energy saving strategies for individual homes and on a larger scale across many homes.

The successful applicant for this role will be comfortable dealing with regularly changing schedules and field conditions. You work effectively in small, collaborative teams and can drive work forward autonomously when needed. You enjoy sharing knowledge about your expertise and are approachable, friendly, and able to communicate to home occupants without judgement. Cultural sensitivity and respect when working in Indigenous communities is essential to success in this role.

This is a fully remote position that requires regular travel to urban, rural, and remote areas of Alberta as well as home-based office work. The successful applicant must have a flexible schedule which allows them to be away from home for 5-10 days at a time.

Core Accountabilities

Travel to various locations across Alberta to perform home energy assessments. Assess the condition of many housing components such as mechanical systems, wall assemblies, electrical systems, and renewable energy systems. Using mobile software, record all assessment findings including the quantity, types, and estimated remaining lifespan of all applicable housing components. Perform blower door tests to measure air leakage in each assessed home. Generate energy models in HOT2000 for each assessed home. Provide detailed commentary on identified energy saving opportunities in each home. Have discussions with home occupants to identify any housing issues and opportunities for energy savings not visually apparent. Analyze energy consumption data to generate energy profiles and identify trends and forecasts. Generate detailed, accurate home assessment reports that provide a clear presentation of all findings. Summarize and communicate assessments findings to the customer team in a clear and actionable way. Collaborate with a small team of housing specialists to ensure the home assessment process continuously meets key project requirements and outcomes. Support in the analysis of aggregate assessment results to identify common issues, trends, and valuable insights for the customer. Use a variety of software to support data collection, assessment reporting, internal expense submissions, time tracking, and other tasks.

Qualifications

1-3 years of experience working as a certified EnerGuide Energy Advisor (EA) is a requirement for this role. Advanced knowledge of HOT2000 and Microsoft Excel, and the willingness to adapt to new software is required. A strong understanding of renewable and alternative energy systems would be an asset. Experience in working with Indigenous and/or remote communities would be an asset. A valid Class 5 driver's license is required.

Employment Period and Compensation

Contract begins: December 1st, 2025 Contract ends: July 31st, 2026 Full-time position Potential opportunity for permanent role at contract end Necessary tools and devices will be provided Includes 2 weeks of paid vacation
