The Role: Reporting to the Manager of Interpretive Delivery, the Historic Interpreters are the \xe2\x80\x9cHeart of the Museum\xe2\x80\x9d and are responsible for delivering our public facing programs and tours. Communication skills are paramount to this role, as our Historic Interpreters bring the Museum alive for our guests. Interpreters act as the on-site ambassadors to greet, assist and engage visitors. This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about visitor experience, customer service and education. You are energetic, outgoing and enjoy working with people. You are already comfortable with public speaking. You have a keen interest in history, geology, education, mining and/or environmental issues. As a full-time Interpreter, you play a key role in helping to ensure our visitors have a meaningful visit to the Museum. You love seeing others learn! You can memorize and retain a significant amount of historic and scientific content in order to deliver an excellent educational experience to our guests. You are capable of performing all aspects of the position, including working outdoors in all weather conditions, standing/walking for majority of a shift, and wearing of necessary protective equipment and uniforms. Please Note: The Museum is governed by the Mines Act, and any employees who access our underground tunnel must be 18 years of age. This position requires access to our underground tunnel, therefore applicants must be over the age of 18. Your Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • A background or formal education in historic or visitor interpretation is considered an asset for this role (though not a deal breaker)
  • Ability to engage with people of all ages and backgrounds using tact, being respectful and professional
  • Excellent communication skills, and can adjust presentation to suit the context of the group (e.g. children, international visitors, etc.).
  • Team player, dependable, adaptable, excellent time management skills
  • Excellence in providing customer service opportunities
Key Responsibilities:
  • Presenting the Museum\xe2\x80\x99s Copper Quest underground tours
  • Hosting BOOM! (an award winning, multi-sensory experience)
  • Delivering a variety of school programs and educational activities
  • Participating in the planning and delivery of s*pecial projects* and events
  • Roaming interpretation, assisting visitors in their activities on site (e.g. how to gold pan)
  • Highlighting the Museum\xe2\x80\x99s exhibits.
  • Working closely with Guest Services to ensure smooth operations.
  • Completion of daily and weekly tasks ensuring that excellent site standards and positive visitor impressions are met.
  • Contributing to regular staff meetings
  • Adherence to all safety considerations, related operating processes and policies and for tours, shows, programs, and use of on-site equipment.
Important Information:
  • This is a full-time, permanent position
  • 35-40 hours/week, schedule include one or more weekend day and stat holidays
  • Starting wage$20.00/hr.
  • There is no public transportation to Britannia Mine Museum therefore applicants must have reliable transportation to the Museum
  • Must provide your own steel-toe boots or shoes, and black or dark grey work-style pants as per the Museum\xe2\x80\x99s uniform requirements.
