The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. Position summary
We seek a highly motivated, organized and meticulous individual with great attention to detail for a full-time position, to support the research activities of the Histopathology Platform and actively participate in its scientific development.
General Duties

  • Execute routine histology procedures including tissue processing and embedding.
  • Perform routine sectioning using microtome or cryostat (including frozen unfixed tissues),
  • Carry out H&E and special staining,
  • Prepare solutions in accordance to standard operating procedures,
  • Clean and maintain instruments as well as all work areas in excellent condition,
  • Dispose of hazardous chemical waste per regulatory guidelines,
  • Document and maintain record of quality control related information,
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and coordinate equipment maintenance,
  • Prepare and set up material and equipment, perform a variety of assays, analyses and tests,
  • Assist Platform users in the development of methodological tools for their individual projects,
  • Respond promptly to queries and requests for information,
  • Troubleshoot, correct and adapt published methodologies
  • Conduct other related tasks as assigned by the Platform Manager

Education / Experience
  • D.E.P. in laboratory technique or BSc. in related field or equivalent experience,
  • Histotechnician certification (HT) preferred,
  • Minimum experience of 2 years as a histology technician,
  • Excellent sectioning skills using the microtome and cryostat,
  • Demonstrated expertise in histological procedures and basic light microscopy,
  • Experience in bone tissue processing and cutting is an asset,
  • Handling and cutting of unfixed tissues,
  • Bilingual: French and English,
  • Excellent communication skills,
  • Able to work under pressure and minimal supervision,
  • Self-directed and organized,
  • Ability to work within a team,
Additional information
Status : Full-time
Pay Scale : Commensurate with education & experience
Work Shift : Full-time - 9am to 5pm.
Work Site : CTB- Glen site
