The Secondary Mathematics Educator is responsible for delivering high-quality mathematics instruction to high school students during the summer semester at Roots to Routes Academy. This role involves creating engaging lesson plans, assessing student progress, and fostering a positive learning environment to help students achieve their academic goals.
Duties
Plan, organize, and deliver mathematics lessons to secondary students (grades 8-12) according to the academy's curriculum.
Assess and monitor student progress through regular quizzes, assignments, and feedback.
Provide individualized support to students, addressing specific learning needs and helping them improve their mathematical skills.
Develop and implement classroom activities that promote problem-solving, critical thinking, social emotional learning (SEL), and a love of learning.
Collaborate with other educators and the Lead Educator to align instructional practices and improve overall program effectiveness.
Maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment.
Communicate regularly with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student progress and classroom dynamics.
Participate in professional development opportunities and staff meetings as required.
Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
Skills
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with students, parents, and staff.
Ability to create an inclusive classroom environment that respects diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
Proficient in classroom management techniques to maintain a productive learning atmosphere.
Familiarity with educational technology tools to enhance teaching methods.
Critical thinking skills to adapt lesson plans based on student feedback and performance.
Patience and empathy in dealing with students' varying emotional and academic needs.
Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively while maintaining attention to detail.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mathematics or a related field.
Ontario Certified Teachers are preferred.
