Are you a performer, a storyteller, or a history enthusiast looking to bring the past to life? As a Heritage Player, you won't just give tours--you will become a living bridge between the 1860s and today. You will immerse yourself in character, costume, and culture to provide locals and visitors with an unforgettable glimpse into the stories that shaped our island and our nation.

Reporting to the Heritage Coordinator, the Heritage Players work closely with them to ensure the successful delivery of the Centre's Heritage activities, including walking tours and educational programs. This is a seasonal part-time position, with hours varying between 20 and 40 hours a week between . Additional off-season work may be available (November-May) to assist with school group activities.

What You'll Do



: Master the art of "living history" by portraying a historical character, complete with authentic Victorian-era costuming and etiquette.

: Lead engaging walking tours that explore the full spectrum of our history--from indigenous beginnings on Turtle Island (Epekwitk) to the modern day, highlighting the voices of the Mi'kmaq, racialized communities, women, and the working class.

: Perform historical vignettes and improvise in character for public crowds and private events.

What We're Looking For



: You are comfortable "in character" and can adapt your performance to any audience--from curious wanderers to large conference groups.

: You're ready to dive into training in June, absorbing tour scripts, PEI history, and Victorian costuming techniques.

You enjoy the energy of downtown Charlottetown and are prepared to perform outdoors in various summer weather conditions (don't worry--we'll train you on staying cool and hydrated in those layers!).

You can switch from a deep historical lecture to a theatrical performance at a moment's notice.

Duties of the Heritage Player will include, but are not limited to:



Delivering engaging historical tours in character and in costume

Promote the tours by engaging with the public in character

Serve as ambassadors for Confederation Centre at various public functions as needed

Perform with fellow Heritage Players in various roles and characters

Collaborate with other staff in Arts Education, particularly during summer camp season (e.g., engage campers in mini walking tours or improv games)

Other duties as required

The ideal candidate will have:



Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision and prioritize efficiently

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; English essential

Strong customer service skills and diplomatic tact

Passion for Canadian and/or Prince Edward Island history

Positive, adaptable attitude

Sufficient physical endurance to walk several hours per shift

Strong attention to detail (e.g., accurate facts and historical dates)

Priority will be given to candidates who are:



between 15-30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period

Canadian citizens or permanent residents

Holders of a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada.

The following qualifications would be considered an asset:



Bilingualism (French/English), and/or other languages (e.g., Mandarin)

Experience in multiple areas of Performing Arts (dance, theatre, music, etc)

Post-secondary training in history and/or Performing Arts

De-escalation training

Job Types: Part-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 3 months

Pay: From $17.00 per hour
