Job Description

Are you a hard-working, experienced individual? Steel River Solutions (SRS) has an exciting opportunity for a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team on project in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This position involves safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment.

Overview

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible the safe and efficient operation of the type of heavy equipment they have been deemed (formally) competent to operate. This may include but is not limited to:

  • Sidebooms
  • Excavators
  • Dozers
  • Graders
  • Rock Trucks
  • Fuel and Service Trucks
Key Responsibilities
  • Operate equipment in a safe manner
  • Excavating around hot lines
  • Active participation in all safety and planning meetings, identification of hazards
  • Provide light maintenance, cleaning and routine service to equipment
  • Mentor crewmates to ensure they are aware of the inherent risks to the equipment they are operating
  • Perform routine inspections to ensure safety operability of equipment
  • Load, unload, identify and distribute materials and equipment
  • Ensure the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment while performing tasks
  • Adhere to all Company policies, plans, standards and procedures
  • Identify safety risks and hazards, and complying with relevant safety procedures and regulations
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned
Job Requirements

Qualifications
  • Various safety tickets, certificates and Personal Protective Equipment are required depending on the project and position
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License or government issued photo identification
  • Project positions are considered safety-sensitive and are required to complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and must be in compliance with Company requirements
Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent; and/or a combination of education and relevant work experience is an asset
  • Previous oil and gas experience in an operator capacity including working around hot lines.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Knowledge of the oil and gas construction industry is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills: written and verbal skills, listening skills, proven attention to detail, and ability to develop good working relationships
  • Knowledge of handling hazardous materials and waste
  • Ability to work in a growing, dynamic and changing environment
  • Optimistic/collaborative approach and attitude towards work
Working Conditions
  • Positions are field based and often work in remote work locations
  • Travel and/or living in temporary accommodations may be required
