Job Description

We are currently recruiting for a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our Brooks, AB Metals Recycling team. Based out of Brooks and working throughout, the Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment to sort and load scrap metal into bins and/or trucks. This position requires a team player with proven interpersonal and customer service skills. Heavy equipment operational experience is a must (Loader, Dozer, Compactor, Excavator, torching/plasma).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Comply with all jurisdictional traffic safety legislation
  • Inspect transport units and loads for safe operation during, prior to and after all transport assignments as required by jurisdictional, and / or NSC standards
  • Ensure load is properly secured at all times
  • Completion and submission on a timely basis of all documentation as required. This includes logbooks, equipment inspection reports, time tickets, accompanying manifests, trip records, fuel, and credit card receipts (JSA's and WSRA's)
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment
  • Clean, lubricate and fuel all equipment and general site housekeeping
  • Abide by all SECURE and customer specific safety procedures
  • Ensure all SECURE safety policies and procedures are followed
  • Responsible for knowing and following the Standard Operating Procedures and mastering critical tasks.
  • Maintaining and implementing safe work procedures.
  • Loading and transporting equipment and materials for Metals Recycling
  • Ensure all transport of hazardous and non-hazardous materials complies with TDG Regulations
  • Must be able to work varied shift start and finish times, work on weekends/overtime and travel away from home location overnight and work for long periods.
Qualifications/Competencies
The individual in this role will have:
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • Heavy equipment operational experience is a must (Loader, Dozer, Compactor, Excavator).
  • Must be able to work away from home for long periods of time on different projects
  • Ability to complete safety documentation in an accurate and timely manner
  • Ability to complete minor servicing and maintenance of equipment including but not limited to, greasing, replacement of air filters, hose changes, O-ring swaps, bade change
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, shoveling, moving containers and other heavy materials
  • Ability to communicate effectively and express thoughts and ideas in a clear manner
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work long days and overnights
