K&D Contracting, an established road construction company, is seeking a skilled
Heavy Equipment Mechanic Supervisor/Shop Manager
to join our team. This hands-on role involves managing the day-to-day work of the mechanical team, ensuring all repairs and inspections meet regulatory standards and company policies. This role plays a vital part in keeping the company's fleet operational, compliant, and reliable. With a focus on mobile forestry equipment. This role requires expertise in various mechanical systems, including electrical, and automotive repair, as well as experience with heavy equipment operation. The job involves in-town (Campbell River) and camp work and is based at various locations on the North Island.
Duties
Supervise and delegate tasks to mechanics; provide technical guidance and quality assurance on all repairs.
Oversee daily repair work to ensure compliance with internal standards and safety protocols.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment within the shop and yard.
Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, including haul trucks (including autonomous CAT trucks), loaders, graders, dozers, excavators, drills, rock trucks and highway trucks.
Diagnose mechanical issues and troubleshoot problems effectively.
Disassemble, inspect, and rebuild key systems including engines, transmissions, and cooling components.
Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical issues in a dynamic operational environment.
Conduct electrical repairs and maintenance to ensure optimal performance of machinery.
Maintain accurate records of repairs, services performed, and parts used.
Operate heavy equipment as necessary for testing and diagnostics.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by management to support operational readiness.
Manage workflow of shop and field to maximize productivity of shop operations
Requirements
Proven leadership skills with the ability to supervise and mentor a team.
Interprovincial Red Seal Certification as a
Heavy Duty Equipment
Mechanic.
Minimum 10 years of experience as a mechanic, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
Proficient with diagnostic software and modern mechanical/electrical repair techniques.
Ability to perform heavy lifting as required for the position.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication skills to provide outstanding team communications.
Strong understanding of fleet management systems and maintenance recordkeeping.
Valid driver's license required for operating equipment on-site, with a clean driving record
